If you love Anne Hathaway for her long, flowing locks, you might want to look away.  Hathaway chopped off a good chunk of her hair to play factory worker Fantine in Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Miserables.  We’ve got set photos of her singing alongside Hugh Jackman, who stars as Jean Valjean.  Jackman has certainly cleaned himself up compared to prior photos; we also previously posted shots of Russell Crowe as Javert and Eddie Redmayne as Marius.  This appears to be the first look at a dramatically gaunt Hathaway and, for those who aren’t familiar with the story, is certainly an appropriate look for her character’s arc throughout the film.  Les Miserables also stars Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, Helena Bonham Carter, and opens December 14th.  Hit the jump to see the set photos.

Check out the set photos (via Celebuzz) after the official synopsis for Les Miserables:

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

These two could give up acting and be so fricking good singers. Loved them in the 2008 oscars.

What if you don’t love Anne Hathaway at all? What if you find her stilted, labored acting like nails on a chalkboard? What if you find her the ONLY reason to be concerned DKR? What if you’re extremely bummed she’s mucking around in films you’re really excited to see; making you not wanting to see said films? There’s nothing I can do about it. And, that sucks.

Sammi, what if , you are a hater ? What if , you are trashing Anne’s performances that you have not seen in TDKR & Les Miserables ? Keep in mind , Hathaway had to read and screen test opposite Christian Bale for TDKR, and she had to audition for her Fantine role in Les Miserables. If she couldn’t pull-off both roles , Chris Nolan ( and Christian Bale ) nor Tom Hooper would have approved her.

I’m definitely not a hater. My opinion of Anne Hathaway is just that, my opinion. Obviously, you are allowed to have yours. People in Hollywood must share your opinion: She keeps getting cast in big projects. But, personally, I don’t understand her appeal. That is all.

The same way you feel about Anne Hathaway, I feel about Helena Bonham Carter. She ruins every movie she’s in, in my opinion, save the Harry Potter series…Perfect typecasting…the enemy. Je meprise Helena Bonham Carter!

I wasn’t happy to learn that Tim Robbins was cast as Andy Dusfresne in Shawshank Redemption, as I can’t stand him and loved the novella. It turned out fine, though. Maybe this will be OK, too.
