One of seven credited writers on Marvel’s Ant-Man, Adam McKay has made headlines lately for his two Oscar nominations for The Big Short: one for writing, and one for directing. Regardless of how the Academy chooses to reward McKay this year, it’s clear that his filmmaking palate will continue to evolve. From a comedy focusing on immigration to a climate change project, McKay is exploring a few options for his next film, including a sequel to Marvel’s Ant-Man.

In talking to Nerdist about his Oscar nominations for The Big Short, McKay confirmed that he’s been chatting with the folks over at Marvel concerning his involvement with their sequel, Ant-Man and the WaspPeyton Reed returns to direct the film that stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, which already has Rudd, McKay, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari working on the story.

Here’s what McKay had to say about Ant-Man and the Wasp:

“We’ve been talking to Marvel actually. We just talked to them the other day, and it looks like I will be involved. I don’t know if it’s gonna be right from page one. But it looks like I will definitely be involved. There you go. There’s a little headline for the fanboys!”

McKay certainly sounds like he’ll have a hand in crafting the film’s story, but it’s still unclear whether or not he’ll be writing the script with Rudd, Barrer, and Ferrari. Hopefully keeping the core writing team, who are all returning from work on the original film, will help to stabilize the behind-the-scenes process and lead to a more rewarding picture overall.

And for fans of McKay who don’t want to wait until 2018 to see his work on screen in the Marvel movie, here’s a look at what he may be up to next:

“I’m talking with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly about maybe doing an immigration comedy. I’m trying to crack climate change very, very hard. I have an interesting idea, I think. But it’s got to be a movie that plays. It can’t be didactic or pedantic. It’s got to be… I want to keep an audience on the edge of their seats. So I’m trying to figure that out. But I don’t know. After this, we’ll see where we end up.”
