In This Week in Animation News, I’ll take a look at the previous week in the world of animation in order to get you caught up on everything you might have missed. It’s your one-stop shop for news regarding cartoons, anime, and animated web series. We’re talking movies, TV shows, digital shorts, and everything in between!

Disney XD leads off this week’s animation news round-up because they’re are simply killing it with the summer series game. We have new content from the network’s Marvel’s Ant-ManDuckTalesMarvel’s Spider-ManMarvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars, and LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. That could be enough for a gathering of news by itself, but we also have some Nickelodeon news thanks to a clip from SpongeBob SquarePants featuring a pair of notable guest stars and a look at one of the network’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Summer Shorts, which is pretty epic.

There’s also a lot of news this week from the more mature side of animation. Interesting projects include Liyana, an animated feature film mixed with a live-action documentary that is inspired by the imaginations of a group of orphaned children in Africa’s Swaziland. There’s also Zero Impunity, which tackles the taboo topic of sexual violence that takes place in war-torn countries. Alongside of this is the news that Women in Animation are launching a series of partnerships aimed at supporting and encouraging students in pursuit of animation-related careers. All of that and more awaits below!
