Marvel Looking to Release the Comic-Con ANT-MAN Test Video; Plus Viggo Mortensen as Doctor Strange Denied

Of the many cool things that Marvel did at Comic-Con, I was most intrigued by the Ant-Man test footage.  The basic premise of Ant-Man (a man who can shrink to the size of an ant fights crime) is not guaranteed to work on film.  But the word on the street says director Edgar Wright nailed out the big/small transition effects, and I want to see for myself.  Marvel executive Victoria Alonso implies that I will probably get my wish.  Alonso told our partners at Omelete (roughly translated):

“What we showed at Comic-Con was a work in progress.  We’re working on finishing it, and I think you might see it.  Not sure where, but we always listen to the fans.  And if the fans demand it we make sure they get it.  I don’t know if we are going to post it online, but I don’t have [any reason] to believe we may not.”

Without a star for a secondary Marvel superhero, Wright has been the key selling point for the Ant-Man movie.  But since Wright first started development on Ant-Man several years ago, it was unclear if the project would ever get in front of cameras.  But Alonso is optimistic that Wright will direct Ant-Man after he wraps on The World’s End:

“Edgar is on board to do it.  He’s going to do one movie before… He wrote a great script and we’re hoping that he will come and work with us.”

Recently, it was suggested that Ant-Man could shoot as early as next year in London for a 2014 release.

Alonso also addressed the rumor that Viggo Mortensen may appear as Doctor Strange in Thor: The Dark World, albeit with less optimism:

“We would love to work with Viggo Mortensen.  I’ve been trying that for years.  But I don’t know if Viggo is even acting anymore.  I thought he wasn’t acting anymore.  It would be great to work with him in the future, but we don’t have him signed, no.”

The notion that Mortensen retired from acting looks to be a few years out of date, and Mortensen is actively working.  But it seems Marvel may actually need to have a conversation with the actor before they are able to sign him to one of those nine-picture deals.
