First ANT-MAN Image Features Paul Rudd Brooding by the San Francisco Bay

Yesterday, Marvel sent out a press release announcing the start of filming on Peyton Reed‘s Ant-Man.  Today, the first Ant-Man image has gone online, and it features thief-turned-hero Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) standing out by the Golden Gate Bridge.  Specifically, he’s at Fort Point, which is where Scottie “rescued” Madeleine in Vertigo, so there’s some fun movie trivia for you.  I’d be surprised if Hitchcock’s classic had anything to do with Reed’s movie, but it’s certainly a lovely, scenic viewpoint.  I have no idea where in the movie this could take place, but probably not near the conclusion unless Marvel is going for their first bummer ending.

Hit the jump to check out the Ant-Man image.  The film also stars Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Gregg Turkington, T.I., and John SlatteryAnt-Man opens July 17, 2015.

I always like it when studios get out ahead of unofficial set photos, and while people will still be taking shots with their cell phone cameras, at least there’s a nice, clear still to help give people a good idea about the movie rather than having fans pick over a fuzzy image like it’s from the Zapruder film.

Here’s the official synopsis for Ant-Man:

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Additionally, Corey Stoll plays Pym’s star employee Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), aka Yellowjacket, who wants the Ant-Man suit for nefarious purposes, and Lilly co-stars as Pym’s daughter, Hope Van Dyne.

      They’re terrified.

      • Jeremy Flores

Ant-Man literally just started filming while they have already wrapped production

      • LEM

        Exactly.

      • Manuel Orozco

I bet the new FF team are trying to surprise us

Hey, hey, hey, they gave us a selfie. :P

You will see the first bit of marketing with this year’s Winter blockbusters.

    • Doctor Doom

Nobody gives a rat’s ass about that movie anyway. Can’t wait for it to flop!

    • Mezmero

Why should they all everybody is doing is bitching about it and they have post-prduction to work on. Plus your acting like this is him in action he only standing there.

    • DoremusJessup

It’s not like they won’t give us a trailer at some point. I, for one, appreciate the low-key approach in age of obnoxious movie faux hype.

    • Daniel O’Reilly

Not true. We got a group selfie. And a Thing head.

    • the king of comedy

They might be afraid of the fan`s reaction, saying they look nothing like the comics (specially the human torch, I actually tough chriss Evans was excelent in that role, too bad the movie sucked), also they migh not have finished the desing of The Thing.

I don’t care about the behind the scenes turmoil any more. How can you not be excited about a Marvel movie with Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas?!

    • Jeremy Flores

exactly. I love Edgar but I’m glad it didn’t work for both parties. He gets to work on original properties (way more exciting) and Marvel gets what they want (more MCU ties)

      • Manuel Orozco

Anyone thinks Edgar Wright should direct Power Rangers instead

      • Jeremy Flores

then the night is dark and full of terrors.

      • Manuel Orozco

        What do you mean

      • Jeremy Flores

Wouldn’t want Edgar to waste his talents on that…especially a 90s property that doesn’t hold up at all (as much as I enjoyed it as a kid)

      • Manuel Orozco

But his work on Scott Pilgrim proves his visual potential.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

His visual potential is not in doubt, the merit of Power Rangers is.

      • Manuel Orozco

Someone is definitely on my side

        Satan?

      • Manuel Orozco

        What

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

        Ah, it is you.

      • Manuel Orozco

Why are you calling me Satan

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

        I’m not.

      • Manuel Orozco

Nvm but I think Wright seems like a potential candidate

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

        He’d never do it.

      • Manuel Orozco

        Why not

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

Power Rangers is a boring franchise.,

      • Manuel Orozco

        Have it your way

      • Pk

Don’t worry Michael bay will take over and butcher it to his hearts content

      • Manuel Orozco

        No way

      • Pk

        Yes way

      • Manuel Orozco

        Let’s just see what happens

      • mattinacan

        you are so weird

      • Manuel Orozco

I just want to see what happens

      • Pk

Just kidding. They might go with a newcomer

      • Manuel Orozco

Newcomer maybe Joe Johnston is still rumored to direct even though his name was taken off the IMDB page

      • the king of comedy

Megan Fox as The Pink Ranger. Mark Walberg as Red Ranger, The Rock as The Black Ranger, Jhon Tuturro as the Blue Ranger, and Shia as the White Ranger Leonard Nimoy for Zordon, and let some other goodloking one note actress be the Yellow Ranger, lots of CGI, big battles explosions, and let it all be finished by one atack with that giant sword, actually this migh be an improvement over the original Power Ranger.

      • Jeremy Flores

Wright is not a potential candidate. Len Wiseman or the guy who did TMNT are more likely candidates. Edgar wouldn’t stoop this low.

      • Manuel Orozco

        Who’s Len Wiseman

      • Manuel Orozco

I bet the guy who did TMNT will sign to direct the sequel

      • Nick

This has me cracking up! Lol Manuel, you’re not too bright

      • Manuel Orozco

Besides Lionsgate is yet to find a director

      • Manuel Orozco

Then who do you think should direct it

      • Jeremy Flores

        Some random music video director

      • Manuel Orozco

Marc. Webb was an MV director before doing Spider Man

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

And his Spider-man movies suck. Hence why he’d be perfect for Power Rangers.

      • Manuel Orozco

No way he’s too committed to Spider Man and he owes a money to Fox after his success with 500 days of summer five years ago.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

If his Spider-man movies continue to underperform, then Fox isn’t going to be in too big of a hurry to get him back.

      • Manuel Orozco

I’m not afraid of that now that Sony is going back to the drawing boards

      • http://www.facebook.com/chrisstarscream Chris Starscream

Backing this statement %100. Lex, as from this day on, I shall call thee “friend”

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

And together we shall conquer the world!!…’s malls. We shall conquer the world’s malls in a string of concerts to keep kids off drugs and out of Spider-man sequels. Mostly the second one.

      • http://www.facebook.com/chrisstarscream Chris Starscream

Let’s join forces an show up at theatres the night sinister six premieres…not to view…but to warn…for if you love marvels spiderman, let this blasphemy fail. allowing its true owners to gain the rights back and bring us the spiderman films that we truly deserve.

      • the king of comedy

Nope that would be a waste of his talents, and Power Rangers is really corny, it was popular with children but wasn`t really that good (there are some things meant for children that you can still enjoy as an adult and Power Rangers wasn`t one of them).

      • Manuel Orozco

        Have it your way

    • Manuel Orozco

I doubt it’ll be great with Wright gone.

  • Dan

I was devastated when Edgar left Ant-Man but given the time that’s past and the sheer Awesomeness of Guardians of The Galaxy I’m starting to come around.

    • Manuel Orozco

I’m starting to come around too

    • salfie

I finally got around to seeing The World’s End and I have to say, I think that might’ve been Wright’s weakest film to date. It seemed like a movie that had multiple themes, but none that it wanted to commit too. I’m sure Wright would’ve brought some kinetic energy to Ant-Man but I wonder how good the final script would’ve been. If we got something close to Tin Tin I would’ve been happy, The World’s End, not so much.

    • the king of comedy

I agree at first I was like WTF, but I actually trust Marvel and the world they are creating is refreshing and a lot of fun, so if Wright`s inclusion was going to mess up their future plans I`m ok with him not being the Antman`s director.

  • JCubs79

I’m looking forward to this movie but I’m concerned about all the production problems its had. I hope it ends up good.

    • Manuel Orozco

      Me too

  • Person

Lang falls into the water and Pym saves him, thus setting up a homoerotic love story that ends in a Spanish church tower. Marvel really did stray from Wright’s vision…

    • Al

      perfect.

  • Larry

Obviously this is towards the beginning of the movie -NOT the end. So I don’t know why you would suggest a “bummer ending”. Seriously, people need to get over Edgar leaving the movie because it shows in practically every write-up. Stop being a killjoy.

    • mattinacan

      dude can you read?

  • Kyle Chandler

Even if it wasn’t going to be Edgar Wright, I wish they would have gotten someone else. Payton Reed seems like a complete tool and his movies are mediocre at absolute best.

    • Matt

Either you haven’t seen interviews with Peyton or you’re just blissfully ignorant. How does he come off as a tool – from everything I’ve read and seen, he’s quite enthusiastic and seems like a guy firmly with his head on his shoulders. Yeah, most of – if not – all of what he’s directed is mediocre but it doesn’t take a genius to look around the corner at The Russo Brothers and their resume. On a side note, Alan Taylor had a great track record in TV, yet ‘Thor: The Dark World’ was just as mediocre as anything Peyton Reed has done.

Take a breathe and let’s see what happens. After all, it’s Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas as superheroes – I can’t wait!

      • Kyle Chandler

Sure, but the Russo’s had done a few different and weird things before they did cap 2 (pilot of arrested development? you have my attention), so I was excited to see the movie. Reed’s movies only stand out to me because of their predictability, which is the opposite of what I want with this film.

Calling him a tool might have been a bit much, but I guess I didn’t like what I saw at the comiccon panel. If nothing else, Marvel might be able to polish and make presentable whatever he puts out, even if it is a turd.

In other words: I’ll still see it.

      • WhoIsTheDoctor

The best way to put it is, Reed will listen to Marvel! Marvel know exactly what to do with this film… A,K.A Simple story – Scott Lang is an ex-con a thief who somehow interacts with Pym and Pym mentors him at the same time we’ll get Janet Van Dyne A.K.A The Wasp of the MCU To come in aswell and all 2/3 (Depending on whether Pym even wants to be apart of it) Take on Yellow Jacket and it’ll be a heist movies. Simple to be honest and thus a franchise will start for Marvel and come the sequel and Marvel will make it tons better.

  • Mezmero

I’m sick of FanBoys really LOL your so confused it make difficult to know if you like it or hate it. What do you really want out movies?? You want them to be taylor made for you but when you get what you want to complain it’s too much or to little…..just stay away from all adaptions of anything I don’t care for you input unless you know what you want.

  • Jonboy

They should do a video blog like Peter Jackson.. that might work in Peyton Reed’s favour…

  • TigerFIST

    Edgar Wright!

  • Strong Enough

this movie is going to be a hit.

  • BrostavoFring

Fucking Neil Hamburger is in this? Yes fam.

  • ThisGuy01

Yep… that’s Paul Rudd. Good to know he’s in the movie.
