The long-gestating thriller Narco Sub has a new director.  Tony Scott was initially developing the film as his next directorial effort before his unfortunate passing, then Doug Liman entered talks to take the helm last year.  Liman subsequently moved on to a number of other projects, and now Deadline reports that Training Day and Olympus Has Fallen director Antoine Fuqua has become attached to direct the pic.  Penned by Safe House scribe David Guggenheim, the Ridley Scott-produced 20th Century Fox film takes place in the drug world and revolves around the semi-submersible crafts that South American cartels use to smuggle cocaine into the U.S.  Fuqua most recently directed The Equalizer, and based on early buzz for that Denzel Washington-fronted pic, Sony is already prepping a potential sequel.

Fuqua is next set to direct the boxing film Southpaw and is apparently mulling over The Magnificent Seven remake at MGM, but Deadline notes that Narco Sub looks promising as something he may tackle in the near future.  He also has The Equalizer 2 to consider.
