Sopranos-onward, Home Box Office has been unrivaled when it comes to adult dramas (The Wire, Deadwood, Game of Thrones, True Blood just as some examples), comedy (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Veep, Silicon Valley, Girls), original movies (Behind the Candelabra, Recount), mini-series (True Detective, Mildred Pierce, Olive Kitteridge), documentaries (many of the Oscar-nominated short docs debut on HBO), and sports coverage (Real Talk, Hard Knocks).
