The folks behind Archer must have a thing for Magnum P.I. FX’s animated comedy series paid tribute to the Tom Selleck career staple in season 2 by mirroring the show’s “Did you see the sunrise this morning?” kill, while UPROXX noted that Archer’s aviators at the end of season 6 was a similar nod. Now, with the premiere of season 7 on the horizon, the characters remade the opening credits of Magnum P.I. shot for shot.

Does this mean Sterling Archer is becoming an actual P.I.? With the team left to their own devices during the season 6 finale, the character exclaimed, “I actually have some thoughts on that,” teasing a new revenue stream. All FX would state on social media regarding the matter was, “Archer P.I. Always ready to screw his enemies in private,” which could just as easily be continuing the gag. While we await more concrete information, get a kick out of the video below.

Still unconvinced of its accuracy to the opener for Magnum P.I.?

This is not the first time the show has invoked Selleck and it won’t be the last. Elsewhere of season 7, series creator Adam Reed teased the following during last year’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con:

It’s not a reboot, but we are creating tons and tons of new elements: wardrobe, weapons, cars, the sets…So we’re drawing so much that were a little behind, and we don’t have the season premiere as we usually do. Not one to spoil it all, I can say that it’s more sexy and dangerous than ever. Or equally as sexy and dangerous.

Archer features the voice talents of H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Chris Parnell, Judy Greer, Amber Nash, and Lucky Yates. Season 7 was recently announced during the TCA presentations to premiere on Thursday, March 27th on FX.
