While I ridicule George Lucas and Lucasfilm for the way they’ve murdered something I truly loved my entire life (the Star Wars movies), I can’t be anything but positive over the announcement that Lucasfilm is doing a special one-night-only charity screening of The Empire Strikes Back on May 19 at the Arclight in Hollywood with Harrison Ford doing an on-stage Q&A! The Arclight screening will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
While many actors in the Star Wars universe have talked about their experiences making the films countless times at conventions and to the press, Harrison Ford is not one of them. In fact, the guy doesn’t do much press to begin with, so to hear him reminisce about one of my favorite movies, let’s just say I hope I get a ticket! Hit the jump for more:
With this being the 30th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, the screening is part of a yearlong charity campaign that Lucasfilm has set up. Also on the calendar are a few Empire Strikes Back charity screenings at The Field Museum in Chicago, with George Lucas attending a reception afterwards. Ticket prices are $30 – $200 and the dates are May 7 and 8. Here’s how to get tickets and more info.
Again, while I ridicule Lucas for how much money he continues to milk out of fans, you’ll never see me be less than positive when it’s for charity. All proceeds from the Chicago event support Education Outreach Programs at The Field Museum.
If you’d like to go to the Arclight screening, tickets are at this link. General tickets are $100 and tickets with priority seating are $175. While it’s a lot of money, it’s for charity and it’s tax deductible.

It's for charity? It's Empire? It's digital? At Arclight? And HARRISON FORD, who NEVER comes out for Star Wars is going to be there? Anyone else – Fisher, Hamill, even Lucas – I'd think twice. But Ford? Had to pick up two tickets. This is literally once in a lifetime.
That'll be amazing, provided they can get more than four words out of Ford with every question asked.
And I think they should specify that it'll most likely be the Special Edition. Yeah, 'special' in a Ralph Wiggum way.
The Arclight sucks. They never turn on the air conditioning. Cheap bastards! It should be at Mann's Chinese Theater where it all started.
