Jonah Hill to Star in Todd Phillips’ ARMS AND THE DUDES; Miles Teller Offered Other Lead Role

Last we checked in on Arms and the DudesJesse Eisenberg and Shia LaBeouf were in talks to star.  Eisenberg has a conflict playing Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and possibly Suicide Squad, and the LaBeouf negotiations never moved beyond the courting stage.  Director Todd Phillips (The Hangover) has a great backup plan.  Jonah Hill closed a deal to star and Warner Bros. made an offer to Miles Teller to co-star.

Hit the jump for more on the project.

Phillips and Jason Smilovic (Lucky Number Slevin) adapted the script from a Rolling Stone article by Guy Lawson.  The crime comedy follows two stoners “who become unlikely arms dealers when they win a $300 million contract from the government to supply America’s allies in Afghanistan with weapons.”  THR reported Hill’s casting and The Wrap followed up with news of Teller’s involvement.  I worry a bit about personality overlap in a Hill/Teller buddy comedy, but they are very funny men with acting chops—my trust in their talent outweighs that concern.

Phillips will produce with Mark Gordon (Source Code) and Bradley Cooper.  Production is expected to begin next spring.
