Arnold Schwarzenegger Plans Return to Acting; May Star in WITH WINGS AS EAGLES

     January 17, 2011

Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger time as Governor has come to close (how’d that novelty work out for you, California?), he is considering a return to acting. reports that he is looking at three scripts right now, including a World War II drama called With Wings as Eagles.  The film is based on a true story about a German officer who helped American POWs escape.  Here’s what Schwarzenegger said about the script:

“One topic/script, which I considered a long time ago before governor, is delighting me particularly. In it I would play an older soldier, who gets the order at the ending of the war to kill a bunch of kids. But he doesn’t do it and get them to safety at the risk of his life and it has all kind of adventure. This script is based on a true story!”

Hit the jump for more on how Schwarzenegger is looking at his acting career as the 63-year-old plans his move from the Governor’s mansion to his regular mansion.

Schwarzenegger says he is looking at Clint Eastwood for inspiration on going from physically-demanding action-movie roles to more dramatic fare:

“In the future I have to adapt my roles to my age. Clint Eastwood also has done it in the same way. Extreme fighting or shooting is not possible anymore. I want to be more encouraged as an actor and I believe that I can manage this challenge. I am like a sponge, which is absorbing all the knowledge and always be willing to learn all new things.”

So is Arnold really out of the action game?  Sylvester Stallone is 64 and no one is telling him he can’t do another Rambo or make a sequel to The Expendables.  The question is whether or not Schwarzenegger can do heavy drama like Eastwood.  Both actors are iconic and that makes it difficult for them to disappear into characters.  However, Eastwood’s filmography has plenty of dramatic work, while Schwarzenegger has always been an action, comedy, or action-comedy guy.  But perhaps being off the big screen for ten years will provide Schwarzenegger with the freedom to re-invent himself.

    Yesssssss. Welcome back Arnold!

  • Conans Dad

PLEASE be true!!!! Arnie is the greatest action hero of our time. And Sly bought back Rambo and it ended up as my favorite of the series.

Even if this new film sucks, then i still hope he carries on and makes more films so that we may get a great one. I wish he would first be in the upcoming Conan flick, as his dad, Conan snr.

Arnies catchphrase was always I’ll be back! Now it looks like he will deliver that promise.
