Netflix in Talks for Another Season of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT

It appears that the episodic structure of Arrested Development may not be over.  While creator Mitch Hurwitz has said many times that the new run of episodes on Netflix were meant to serve as Act One of a story that would be completed with Act Two and Act Three in an Arrested Development movie, Bloomberg reports that Netflix is currently in negotiations to make another season of the show.  The news comes from producer Brian Grazer himself, who noted that he and his Imagine Entertainment cohorts are “in conversations with [Netflix] to do another.”  Hit the jump for more.

Though Netflix doesn’t release viewership numbers regarding its content, interest in the new run of episodes was extremely high when they premiered exclusively on the streaming service.  One imagines another season of the show would prove to be quite lucrative for Netflix, and seeing as how Hurwitz has had a great deal of trouble convincing a film studio to make an Arrested Development movie, he might be able to complete the story in an episodic nature through one or two more seasons.

The issue now, though, would be scheduling.  It proved difficult to get the expansive ensemble cast of Arrested Development back together to film season four, which is why Hurwitz was hoping the allure of a feature film salary would allow him to get everyone together for an extended period of time.  Hurwitz made use of green screen in order to film certain scenes of season four, as the entire cast was only together on set for two days of filming.  I’m interested to see how Hurwitz would proceed should he make a fifth season of Arrested Development, as the new string of episodes presented an incredibly complex and puzzle-like story structure.  It looks like we might just get the chance to find out.

Should a season five order occur, Netflix will have renewed  all of its original programming from this year, as House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, and Orange Is the New Black all have second season orders already.
