We may no longer have the NBC supernatural comic book series Constantine, but the character lives on in the upcoming Arrow crossover episode “Haunted”. Fans have been expecting Matt Ryan’s John Constantine to make his way to Starling City for some time now, and today brings a first look via a batch of photos from the episode.

Be wary of spoilers from the current run of Arrow, but this is a big moment. While some of us are still getting over Constantine’s cancellation, this crossover bridges the tormented exorcist and occult detective into the rest of the DC TV universe. In the past, The CW said of Ryan’s one-episode stint that Constantine would “provide critical support to Oliver when arrows aren’t enough.” With the arrival of new photos, however, comes the arrival of a more detailed plot synopsis.

When things take a turn for the worse with Sara (guest star Caity Lotz), Oliver (Stephen Amell) calls in a favor from an old friend who deals in the mystical, John Constantine (guest star Matt Ryan). John Badham directed the episode written by Brian Ford Sullivan & Oscar Balderrama.

Even if you don’t watch Arrow, you’ve probably noticed from the Legends of Tomorrow teasers that Sara comes back from the dead as White Canary, thanks to the Lazarus Pit. But as we’ve discovered on Arrow, the resurrection isn’t always a seamless process, especially with someone like Sara who was completed dead when she entered the mystical waters. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim previously teased to press that, since Constantine is well suited to deal with this level of magic, he plays a pivotal role in Sara’s resurrection. As shown in the photo set below, this process takes Constantine and Team Arrow back to the Lazarus Pit chamber.

In addition, stay tuned for how Constantine is specifically brought into this episode. The character is referred to as “an old friend” of Oliver’s, and yet this is the first time we’re seeing these figures share the screen together. Hopefully this tidbit will be explained come airtime. The crossover episode, titled “Haunted,” will premiere on The CW next Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST. Check out the photos below courtesy of The CW (via CBM).
