ARROW Adds Peter Stormare and Devon Aoki for Season 3, Stephen Amell Prepares to Win Comic-Con

     July 3, 2014

The CW’s Arrow has had some great supporting characters in their two short years with excellent casting to fill the roles.  For the upcoming third season, the action/drama will be adding Peter Stormare and Devon Aoki, who will each appear in the season premiere on October 8th at 8pm.  Stormare, who chews the scenery with the best of them in numerous feature film roles, will act as the first villain Team Arrow takes on in the third season.  Aoki, who starred in Sin City and 2 Fast 2 Furious, will take on the role of one of Oliver Queen’s mentors.  We’ll keep their character reveals until after the jump if you want to avoid spoilers.

Speaking of Oliver Queen, Stephen Amell himself took to Facebook recently to proclaim his victory over Comic-Con and teased three big things on his upcoming schedule.  Hit the jump for more.

TV Guide reports that Stormare will join season three of Arrow as Count Vertigo.  Now some of you long-time fans of Arrow might be confused by that, since the wicked count was previously played, quite well at that, by Seth Gabel.  After the Count’s death, it seems that a new player has entered the fray to dabble in the Vertigo drug trade.  That man is Werner Zytle, DC’s New 52 version of Count Vertigo, who will be played by Stormare.

On the heroic side of things, executive producer/writer Andrew Kreisberg broke the Aoki casting news as follows:

Aoki will indeed be playing Tatsu Yamashiro, aka Katana, a martial arts expert who wields a deadly sword and acts as one of Oliver’s mentors in the beloved flashback sequences.  Fans will remember that Ollie woke up in Hong Kong at the close of season two, where he will presumably be trained by Katana, who had quite the influence on his eventual heroic turn as the Arrow.  Aoki is set to recur.

Arrow-stephen-amellNow, back to Amell.  Here’s a snippet of what he said about his Comic-Con appearance from his Facebook page:

You know I’m going to be at San Diego Comic-Con International this year, but you have no idea what I’m going to be doing. The Arrow panel on Friday evening is the literal tip of the iceberg. Feel free to speculate. There are (at least) 3 more things on my schedule. Big things. Needless to say, I plan on winning Comic-Con this year. Captain Style.

Heading to a new city this September to meet some friends. Announcement is coming Tuesday.

Huge welcome to DEVON AOKI – who is joining us for Season 3. Don’t know who she’s playing? USE THE INTERNET!!

We’ve previously speculated that Amell would make the jump from the small screen to DC/WB’s feature films in order to make an appearance as Green Arrow.  Still not quite sure this is what’s on his schedule, but Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is already loading up on villains, so what’s another superhero show-up really matter?  I wouldn’t be that surprised if he popped up in Justice League, though it would be a pleasant announcement indeed.
