The CW released the first Arrow season 3 trailer on Friday.  On Saturday, Stephen Amell announced that Ra’s al Ghul will be the big bad in season 3, so The CW has released a new extended trailer that adds about 30 seconds of Ra’s al Ghul footage at the end of the clip.  Ra’s al Ghul was referenced several times in season 2, so fans guessed this was coming.  His presence in this footage is represented by camera pans across a faceless costume and ominous voice-over, so it will be interesting to see who the Arrow team casts as the immortal villain.

Starring Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Willa Wolland and Caity Lotz along with new cast members Peter Stormare, Devon Aoki and Brandon Routh, Arrow season 3 returns October 8.  Check out the first look at Ra’s al Ghul after the jump.

Some background on Ra’s al Ghul from the comics:arrow ras al ghul

Ra’s al Ghul is a radical international eco-terrorist who has been around for hundreds of years. He believes that the evils of humanity are a blight on our planet, and seeks to extinguish them through whatever means he deems necessary. Through an international cabal named the League of Assassins, he manipulates world events to achieve his own ends. This frequently puts him into conflict with the Batman, one of very few adversaries he deems worthy enough of himself, and who he has encouraged to marry his daughter Talia al Ghul. Although most of his power comes from his immense influence, he is also a formidable combatant, having the benefit of many lifetimes worth of experience and accumulated skill. Ra’s achieves his immortality through the ancient Lazarus Pits. His name literally translates to Demon’s Head, or Head of the Demon which is a comment on his character. [DC Comics Database]

So who do you guys want as Ra’s?

    • cimmerian

      Giancarlo Esposito.

      • YodaRocks

While it would have been the best casting choice, the color of his fingers is white.

      • appolox

I think Bill Nighy would be great but he’s probably too expensive.

      • cimmerian

I don’t think the fingers being white in a 30 second promo is a deal breaker (they recast Sara Lance completely) but if it’s a white guy how about Adrian Paul?

    • Miki

Oded Fehr – handsome, the right age, middle eastern look but not too much, has the physical presence, and his Ra’s al Ghul voice in Young Justice was the best voiceover after David Warner.

      • JR

Hell yeah! Oded Fehr is the only person fit for the role seeing how Liam Neeson will no longer play Ra’s since the Dark Knight Trilogy is over. He is also young and old enough to play Nyssa’s father and look like he’s been dipped in the Lazarus pit recently.

      • M

Forgot about Oded. Yes, I’d could get behind that!

How did Arrow nab Ras Al Ghul but had issues trying to get Harley Quinn in the show.

    • Oliver Queen

They didn’t have issues getting her on the show, they said it was always an easter egg and they never planned on having her on the show for more than that. Besides Quinn only exists cause of the Joker and Joker only exists cause of Batman and if Batman was in the Arrow universe, he would over shadow the hero of the show. That’s why it’s an easter egg for fans.

      • World’s Finest Comments

That is, until they get tired of people asking about Harley until they decide “Fuck it, let’s just officially put her in!”.

      • Oliver Queen

Until that happens, of course LOL XD

  • Jack Dennis

just started watching this show.alot better and addicting than expected for a CW show.they need to do more shows like this and less 90210 and gossip girl. i know they’ve been off the air for a while …

    • LEM

I almost didn’t watch the show because it was on CW and expected the tween drama BS but thankfully they moved in the right direction.

      • Jack Dennis

the CW should keep building this superhero world they’ve created with arrow and the flash. theres no reason to not have their own justice league on tv. the CW could be the first all superhero shows network.i wonder why they haven’t made a batman series?it could be made on the same budget as arrows

      • Django9000

        Gotham.

      • Jack Dennis

no batman in gotham. just a young bruce wayne. thats all we will see in that show.

      • LEM

There was talk of a Batman series starring Karl Urban to start after the nolan series ran it’s course but the Justice League/Superman v Batman killed all that.

      • Jack Dennis

its ridiculous that they think there isn’t an audience to watch two versions at the same time. i would love to see both coincide. i would pay to watch that show.especially with karl urban starring.they’re going todo that with the flash because they aren’t going to use the same actors.

i also have to say the most annoying performance on that show is coming from the guy who plays sgt. lance.i hope he’s not on the show past season 1

      • LEM

I’m just glad he’s extending his acting beyond a little angry to very angry.

  • Say what?

I hope Ras doesn’t turn out to be an alcoholic actor

    • Nemesis11

      This ain’t Marvel.

      • Chairil Habibi

        Wkwkwkwkkw.

  • The Dude Abides

Why can’t anyone pronounce his name correctly?

    • Jason Wright

I guess they haven’t seen “Batman: The Animated Series”. Honestly, while I prefer the pronunciation from that iteration, I think there’s enough room for many interpretations of these characters.

    • Oliver Queen

There’s a different pronunciation in comics/games/cartoons and different in TDK trilogy. The Arrow writers decided to use both versions and said they will explain the different pronunciations.

    • JR

Ra’s al Ghul is pronounced “raahs” not “raysh”. The creator pronounces it “raysh” because he didn’t bother to speak with a linguistics expert when it comes to Arabic language. In Arabic it’s pronounced “Raas,” Raysh al ghul means nothing whereas Ra’s (raahs) al Ghul means Head of the Demon. Batman the Animated series, though fun to watch was wrong as well.

  • MJ

Heaven forbid he forgets about that thing on his finger when he goes to scratch his ass.

  • Pernell Whitaker

Hope he’s not white. Loving his swag tho, I mean the dude hangs casually with a sword in a scabbard, Ra’s is very image conscious – always a good trait in a super villain.

  • Guy Smiley

I was already excited for Ra’s, but now that they’ve explicitly referenced the Lazarus Pit in the press releases I am positively stoked!

The only downside is that I bet we’ll learn that Tommy’s alive again, thanks to the pit. But a “Dark Tommy” might actually be pretty cool, and I’m not worried since Arrow keeps getting better and better.

    • Pernell Whitaker

Thanks for giving the game away d-bag.

    • arrowfancalledphillip

      great spoil

  • Kaine Morrison

    What the freaking hell????
Why are they ALWAYS pronouncing his name wrong!!!!?????

    • Oliver Queen

There are two pronunciations and the writers of Arrow will explain why they used both.

  • markm091

Oded Fehr would be perfect for the role!

  • Chairil Habibi

    Brandon Routh Is The Atom.
