In an age where long-developed sequels and movies-turned-tv-shows are bombing left and right, Ash vs Evil Dead defied the odds and showed 'em all how it's done with a rip-roaring first season that delivered the goods fans spent decades demanding, while still giving the series breathing room to grow into a fearsome, bloody beast all its own. Last we saw Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his new gang, they were headed off to sunshine-y Jacksonville, Florida for a little hard-earned (well, bargained more than earned) peace and quiet. But this is the realm of Necronomicon, and with Season 2 just around the corner, you can bet everything is about to go topsy-turvy (and oh so bloody) once again.

Indeed, AvED is slated to appear at Comic-Con this weekend for Petco Park signing session on Saturday afternoon with a panel and screening to follow, but the folks over at Starz are going to have to cut a new trailer in a hurry because the one they had planned was deemed too graphic for the Con. Fortunately, they've released it on online, so get in the mood for all the Evil Dead SDCC updates to come with this extra-gory sneak peak (and stay tuned over the weekend for a panel recap and Season 2 premiere review from yours truly).

For Season 2, returning cast members Bruce Campbell, Lucy LawlessRay Santiago, and Dana DeLorenzo are joined by newcomers Lee Majors as Ash’s father, Ted Raimi  as Ash’s Childhood best friend, and Michelle Hurd as Ash’s highschool sweetheart. Catch up with the old Deadite hunting crew and meet the newbies in the Red-Band trailer below.

Here’s the official Season 2 synopsis:

The second season roars back into action with Ash leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his hometown of Elk Grove. There, he confronts Ruby. The former enemies have to form an uneasy alliance as Elk Grove soon becomes the nucleus of evil.

The cast is led by Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) in the role of Ash Williams; Lucy Lawless (“Salem,” “Spartacus”) as Ruby, who now possesses the powerful Necronomicon; Ray Santiago (“Touch,” Meet the Fockers) as Pablo Simon Bolivar, Ash’s loyal sidekick dealing with the trauma he suffered in the cabin; and Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) as Kelly Maxwell, who, grief-stricken after the death of her parents, plots revenge against The Evil Dead.
