If you’ve longed to see Brendan Gleeson play the father of fellow Irishman Michael Fassbender, you’ll get your chance—in a video game movie, no less! Per Deadline, Gleeson and Jeremy Irons have been added to the formidable cast of Assassin’s Creed, 20th Century Fox and New Regency’s adaptation of the popular video game series. The story revolves around a man who is able to go back in time and assume the roles of his various ancestors throughout history. Fassbender stars in and is producing the film, which reunites him with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard.

While Glesson plays the father of Fassbender’s character, Irons will play the father of Cotillard’s. Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, a man who unlocks the technology to unlock his genetic memories, thus allowing him to experience the adventures of his ancestor Aguilar in 15th Century Spain. He soon discovers that he’s the descendent of a line of assassins, and must amass knowledge and skills to defeat the shady Templar organization in present day. Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Michael Leslie penned the screenplay while Frank Marshall is producing.

History tells us we should be wary of any and all video game movies, but the team assembling for Assassin’s Creed is unprecedented in its promise. Kurzel’s Macbeth looks spectacular, with a striking visual style and focus on character above all else, and Fassbender and Cotillard are two impeccably talented actors—and now they’re joined by two more esteemed performers in the form of Gleeson and Irons. The latter will next be seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while Gleeson most recently wrapped filming on Gary Ross’ Civil War drama The Free State of Jones opposite Matthew McConaughey.

Production on Assassin’s Creed is currently underway in anticipation of the film’s December 21, 2016 release date.
