Hot off the presses from E3 comes a new featurette for the Assassin’s Creed film starring Michael Fassbender as an entirely new character, Callum Lynch. While the actor and his Macbeth helmer Justin Kurzel tease the intense action sequences and the cinematic experience of the video game brought to life, the footage takes us on a trip through time and Callum’s past life.

“We work in the dark to serve the light,” says Callum. As Fassbender explains, there are two major forces in this film: the assassins who fight for freewill, and their adversaries, the Templars who “are trying to enhance human kind through science.” Kurzel further discussed the concept of traveling through time and tapping into the connection with your ancestors. The popular game franchise is already cinematic in nature, and fans will be excited to see Kurzel and his crew are utilizes various locales and sweeping vistas for a full-fledged vision. Elsewhere, the heart-pounding action sequences are complimented by the game-accurate fighting styles executed by Callum and the assassins.

Assassin’s Creed features another Macbeth alum in Marion Cotillard, as well as Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Michael K. Williams, and let’s not forget Ariane Labed (The Lobster), who stepped into the role earlier planned for now Oscar winner Alicia Vikander. Her name was left out of this featurette, but she looks stellar as a fellow assassin leaping off rooftops and daggering enemies.
