In the international thriller Erased, ex-CIA agent Ben Logan (Aaron Eckhart) discovers that he and his teenaged daughter (Liana Liberato) have been marked for termination as part of a wide-reaching conspiracy that he unknowingly ended up right in the middle of. Logan must outsmart their hunters and uncover the truth, all while still getting reacquainted with the daughter he hasn’t had much of a relationship with in years.

At the film’s press day, actor Aaron Eckhart spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about what attracted him to the film, why audiences like spy thrillers, the challenges of doing hand-to-hand combat, how tiring this film was to make, and the physical preparation he did ahead of time. He also talked about how hardcore the Kali stick fighting was that he had to learn for his role as the famous monster in I, Frankenstein, due out in theaters in January 2014. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

How did this movie come about for you?

AARON ECKHART: Well, I liked the father-daughter thing. It’s a small action movie. I’ve always felt like you can really score with a modestly budgeted action movie that just relied on cars and fighting with fists and the old-school way to make a movie. That’s what people really love. And it had a solid relationship underneath it. I felt that that was a good fit for me. It also filmed in Europe, and I liked that. There were a lot of things I liked about ...

One of The CW’s most anticipated new series for the upcoming fall season is The Vampire Diaries’ spin-off The Originals. The sexy drama, set in the city of New Orleans, will follow Original vampires Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt), who quickly find themselves in the middle of tensions between the town’s supernatural factions, which are nearing a breaking point as the city’s leader, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), commands his devoted followers and rules with absolute power. The show also stars Phoebe Tonkin, Daniella Pineda, Leah Pipes and Danielle Campbell.

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Daniel Gillies talked about how much fun he’s had on The Vampire Diaries, how he felt about Elijah’s relationship with Katherine (Nina Dobrev), the experience of shooting the backdoor pilot for The Originals in New Orleans, that the series itself will shoot primarily in Atlanta (where The Vampire Diaries is shot), and that he’s hoping for possible cross-over episodes between the two shows. He also talked about the challenging experience of making his directorial debut, Broken Kingdom, which you can now view on Showtime, along with the documentary about his journey with the film, Kingdom Come. Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

How much fun have you had on The Vampire Diaries this season, and how surprising is the direction the character has gone in?

The indie thriller Black Rock tells the story of three young women – Sarah (Kate Bosworth), Abby (Katie Aselton, who also directed the film from a script by her husband, Mark Duplass) and Lou (Lake Bell) – who decide to renew their bond by revisiting a moment from their childhood and returning to an empty island off the coast of Maine. Once there, they realize they are not alone when they encounter three recently returned servicemen who have come to the island to hunt, and things quickly get out of hand, leaving the women to fight for their lives.

At the film’s press day, actress/director Katie Aselton and actress Lake Bell talked about surviving the challenging shoot, the crazy weather, being game for anything, having no trailers or bathrooms on set, what they did to unwind, and wanting to do lighter fare once the film was finished. Bell also spoke about the experience of directing her own first full-length feature In a World.... Check out what they had to say after the jump.

Collider: With everything you had to go through, during the making of this movie, whether your character survives or not, did it feel empowering that you survived the filming?

KATIE ASELTON: Yeah, it was amazing! The story of survival is a nice metaphor for our experience making this movie, finding your inner strength and powering through and getting to the endpoint alive.

LAKE BELL: Sets were washed away with the tides.

ASELTON: Everything was a constant battle. My first film ...

The A&E drama series Bates Motel is currently wrapping up its first season and has already been picked up for Season 2. To celebrate the show’s success, the Paley Center held a panel called Bates Motel: Reimagining a Cinema Icon, and Collider was there to cover and attend the event. From executive producers Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights), the show is a contemporary prequel that gives an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ (unsettlingly portrayed by Freddie Highmore) psyche unravels through his teenage years and just how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma (in an awards worthy performance by Vera Farmiga), truly is.

During the panel, Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin, along with Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga, talked about the challenges of pulling this show off, what makes the relationship between Norman and Norma Bates so compelling to watch, what the actors bring to their characters, learning more about Norma’s backstory and what made her the way she is, how exhausting it is to write for crazy people, what they look for in directors, and the ideal plan for how long the show will run. Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Question: When this idea was brought to you, what made you think you could pull it off?

KERRY EHRIN: We didn’t, necessarily.

CARLTON CUSE: We were approached by Universal Television – Universal owns the rights to the Psycho franchise – and they said, “Would ...

Ray Stevenson is a great actor. So, when I heard that he would be playing the villain on Season 7 of the Showtime drama series Dexter, I was very intrigued, and he definitely didn’t disappoint. As Isaak Sirko, the ruthless leader of the Koshka Brotherhood, Stevenson gave a complex and layered performance of a character where there was certainly more than meets the eye.

During this recent exclusive interview with Collider, actor Ray Stevenson talked about how he came to be a part of Dexter, how he wished his character could have gotten Dexter (Michael C. Hall) on a kill table, that he loved working with such a great cast and crew, what it was like to work on such a secretive show, and just how much more villainous a stone cold killer can get when you break his heart. He also talked about being a part of the Marvel universe as Volstagg in the Thor films and the challenges of wearing such an extensive fat suit, as well as what appealed to him about Divergent, in which he’s playing Marcus. Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Collider: How did you come to be a part of Dexter?

RAY STEVENSON: Scott Buck, who’s the showrunner, had worked with Bruno Heller on the series Rome, that I did, and the call came out of the blue. I knew that it was a very privileged thing to get offered this nine episode ...

From filmmaker/actress Sarah Polley, Stories We Tell investigates the search for truth, as told by a family of storytellers who paint a portrait of a complicated but deeply loving family. As each interview subject relates their version of the family mythology, they attempt to uncover the secrets of their mother, who departed too soon and with too many unanswered questions.

At the film’s press day, Sarah Polley talked about the value in getting this narrative out to audiences, what was most important for her to get right with this story, what the film did for her personally and how she felt when it was complete, whether everything in the film is factual, how she wanted to account for her own voice as the filmmaker, and the process of taking breaks in shooting to edit the material she already had. Check out what she had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

When you set out to make this, what value did you see in getting this narrative out there?

SARAH POLLEY: I think, for me, the story itself wasn’t enough to want to make a film about it. You know that things that happens whenever anything even mildly coincidental happens in your life and people go, “That would make a great movie,” and you’re like, “No, it wouldn’t.” I remembered that when these events happened in my own life, they were really impactful for me and the people in my life, but as a story or a ...

Last week, Collider (along with a handful of other outlets) was invited to hang out at the L.A. offices of DC Entertainment and chat with comic book legend Grant Morrison. Known for pushing boundaries, exploring the unknown, and redefining legendary heroes and concepts for classic and new audiences, the Scottish-born writer talked about why he loves writing for Batman and Superman, and the new books he’s working on for Wonder Woman and the universe-hopping Multiversity.

Grant Morrison also spoke to Collider for a few minutes about what it’s like to be a rock star of the comic book world, meeting one of the actors who’s played a character that he’s written for, the first comic book he ever read, and when he realized he could make a career out of writing comics. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Collider: Most writers sit at home at a laptop and nobody ever knows who they are, but when you write comic books, you become a rock star when you go to things like Comic-Con or your own MorrisonCon. Is that a strange feeling?

GRANT MORRISON: The thing is, you don’t really feel it. Back home, you’re just at home with a computer. If you go online, most of what you get is just people calling you names. You never have that sense of it, at all. Being a writer is just about being in that room, working. When I was young, I was in bands and I wanted to be a rock ...

After releasing its new primetime schedule, Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Company, held a conference call to talk about some of the changes and additions that were made. Even though a number of new drama series and comedies were announced, most of the attention seems to be focused on the return of 24, likely to return in May as a compressed 12-episode run that, if successful, could become a more regular event on the network.

During the interview, Reilly also talked about how they’re going to approach their comedy block this year, why New Girl gets the post-Super Bowl slot, and where Gleewill be heading in the next two seasons. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Question: How did the 24 pick-up come about, and how will the compressed 12 episodes work with the 24-hour format?

KEVIN REILLY: They always had this idea of maybe someday doing a feature film, but as they got into the feature film, they all agreed that 24 being compressed into two hours is not 24. But, talking about it over the last couple of years, they got their juices flowing again. When we announced this new franchise, a little light bulb went off for Howard [Gordon] and he said, “Wait a minute, why are we trying to kill ourselves to crack a feature when this is the perfect form?” As he was designing the season, the spine of the 24 episodes was really about 12 hours. That was when the ...

One of the best written and best acted dramas currently on network (or any) television is Hannibal, from show creator Bryan Fuller. Based on the characters from Thomas Harris’ classic novels, the series follows the unsettling relationship between psychiatrist-turned-serial-killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and gifted criminal profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy).

During this recent exclusive interview with Collider, executive producer/writer Bryan Fuller talked about how the series came about, how he gauges the level of violence on the show, how he ended up with Dancy, Mikkelsen and Laurence Fishburne as his lead actors, how fascinating the character relationships are, that knowing the eventual destination of these characters is a huge gift, when Hannibal Lecter’s famous face mask could appear, how the Red Dragon story would come into play in Season 4, adding some female characters to the mix, how they decide what meals Dr. Lecter will prepare and serve, future romantic relationships for the serial killer, and what Gillian Anderson brings to the show. He also talked about the possibility of a Kickstarter campaign for a Pushing Daisies movie. Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Collider: How did Hannibal come about? Was it something you had the idea for, or did the network come to you with this concept?

BRYAN FULLER: How it started was that I was on a fateful plane trip to New York. I had just finished a draft of a script and I was like, “I ...

Much to the surprise and joy of every Arrested Development fan, the Emmy Award-winning comedy series following the wildly eccentric and entertainingly dysfunctional Bluth family is back with 15 new episodes debuting on Netflix on May 26th. After having seen the first episode, I can say that the show is as twisted and funny as ever, and feels like it hasn’t missed a beat in the seven years since the last episode aired. From creator/writer Mitch Hurwitz, the series stars Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, David Cross, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, Jeffrey Tambor and Jessica Walter.

During a recent press conference to promote the 15 new episodes, co-stars Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, David Cross, Portia de Rossi, Alia Shawkat and Jessica Walter talked about how great it’s been to reunite with each other, the possibility of a movie still being made, what it was like to return to these roles after so many years, how often fans throw quotes at them when they’re out, how complicated the episodes were to shoot, and just how many scenes the Bluth family is in together. Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Question: Now that you’ve done 15 episodes and they’re going to be available on May 26th, is there any sense of vindication?

JASON BATEMAN: I don’t think any of us felt any bitterness or huge frustration that the show had gone away. For the most part, the emotion around ...

Now that it’s been revealed that there is at least one more living beast, aside from Vincent (Jay Ryan), things are about to get explosive for both him and his love Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) on The CW drama series Beauty and the Beast, already been picked up for Season 2.

The show’s executive producer/writer Jennifer Levin spoke to Collider about this revelation, how long then been planning to have another beast, whether this beast could help or hurt the show’s heroes, determining the look and just how different it would be from Vincent, the cool revelations that are still to come, and just how epic the finale and the cliffhanger in it will be. Check out what she had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Collider: How will the reveal of Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) being another beast play into the finale?

JENNIFER LEVIN: He’s a beast and the question is, “Is he going to work with Vincent, or is he out to get them?” That’s what plays into that final episode. It leads to some stuff that you wouldn’t expect, and some really cool revelations.

When I spoke with Jay Ryan before the show’s debut, he talked about his hope that there would eventually be more beasts, at some point. When did you decide to introduce that storyline, and how early on did you start to develop that?

LEVIN: We talked about it early on, that there might be another beast out there and that that would ...

Based on the best-selling first book in a trilogy, Divergent is set in a future society, divided into factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue and including Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful) and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all 16-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives, but when that day comes for Beatrice “Tris” Prior (Shailene Woodley), her choice will surprise everyone, including herself. Directed by Neil Burger (Limitless), the film also stars Theo James, Ashley Judd, Tony Goldwyn, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Jai Courtney and Zoe Kravitz.

With the film now in production in Chicago, Collider was invited, along with a handful of other online outlets, to chat with author Veronica Roth about what this whole experience has been like for her. During the interview, she talked about her first reaction when she read the script, what it was like to be on set, what fans of the book series can expect from Allegiant, the final installment in the trilogy, whether she’d ever write from another character’s point of view again, what it’s been like to see the characters and world in her head brought to life, which actors have asked her the most questions about their characters, why Shailene Woodley is perfect for Tris, the chemistry between her and Theo James, the director’s vision versus her own, and what she’s ...

In the Doctor Who episode “Nightmare in Silver” (written by best-selling author Neil Gaiman), Hedgewick’s World of Wonders, which once the greatest theme park in the galaxy, is now merely the dilapidated home to a shabby showman, a chess playing dwarf and a dysfunctional army platoon. So, when one of the Doctor’s (Matt Smith) oldest foes, the Cybermen, return, it’s up to Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) to not only help save the day, but also help rescue the Doctor.

During this recent interview to promote his most recent Doctor Who episode (his last one was “The Doctor’s Wife”), Neil Gaiman talked about how the different elements of the story all came together, why he decided the Cybermen needed to evolve, creating the cybermites, where he would draw the line with cybernetic augmentation, how he views the TARDIS, that he would love to create a monster for the Doctor Who universe, that he prefers to be given parameters to write within, what he enjoyed most about Patrick Troughton’s era as the Doctor, and how much Doctor Who has influenced his life and his writing. Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Question: “Nightmare in Silver” has a lot of great elements to it. How did the different elements come together? Had you always wanted to play with the Cybermen, and when did the idea of the Doctor versus Doctor come in?

NEIL GAIMAN: Well, the entire episode began with an email from Stephen Moffat. ...

In what sounds like a truly awesome job, Mike Vogel has headed all development for Hasbro Studios, the Los Angeles-based production division of Hasbro, Inc., since March 2011, shepherding many of the studio’s well-known brands from inception through success on The Hub, a joint venture between Hasbro and Discovery Communications, and on networks reaching more than 160 countries, globally. He works closely with producers, writers and artists, as well as independent entities, to re-imagine, reinvent and reignite the company’s beloved brands while collaborating on possible toys, products and licensing. Essentially, he makes a living being a big kid and bringing his childhood geek fantasies to life.

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, Mike Vogel talked about what his day-to-day duties entail, what the biggest surprise has been, in terms of toy sales, how often they decide to rotate or add characters on their shows, how much they listen to fans to make sure their ideas are also incorporated, what they’re doing to reach the comic book movie audience, that they’ll have some big news and really cool stuff for fans at Comic-Con, the coolest toys and merchandise that he has in his office, the challenges of developing new properties, and the possibility of a Candyland cartoon or a KREO animated series. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

So, what exactly does being the Vice President of Development of Hasbro Studios entail, on both a day-to-day basis and as part of the bigger picture of Hasbro?

The original Netflix drama series House of Cards is an uncompromising exploration of power and ambition. Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey), the House Majority Whip, is a politician’s politician – masterful, beguiling, charismatic and ruthless – and he and his equally ambitious wife, Claire (Robin Wright), will stop at nothing to ensure their ascendancy. The Academy of Television recently hosted an evening to celebrate the show, and Collider was there to cover and attend the event.

During the discussion about the 13-episode series, actor/executive producer Kevin Spacey and showrunner/executive producer/writer Beau Willimon talked about their extreme look at Washington, D.C., the collaboration and freedom they get with Netflix, that they shoot two episodes at a time, both done by the same director, why they shoot in Baltimore, Maryland instead of D.C., why this is such a Golden Age for television, and how they’ve developed the storylines with two seasons in mind. Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Kevin, did you base Francis Underwood on anybody, in particular?

KEVIN SPACEY: No. If you go back to the origins of this series, it started with Richard III. Michael Dobbs wrote the book House of Cards, which is what they based the original British series on. He wrote this book as a kind of revenge, after he had a falling out with the government and left. I remember the series. My mother loved it, when it was airing here, in the United States. It was ...

With the final two episodes of Season 2 entitled “Second Star to the Right” and “And Straight on Till Morning,” it’s clear that the ABC fantasy series Once Upon A Time will be exploring the world of Neverland. While Emma (Jennifer Morrison) believes that Neal’s (Michael Raymond-James) fiancée Tamara (Sonequa Martin-Green) had something to do with Regina's (Lana Parrilla) disappearance, a young Bae (Dylan Schmid) finds himself in Old London and is taken in by the Darling family when he befriends their daughter, Wendy (Freya Tingley).

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Michael Raymond-James (True Blood, Terriers) talked about how Neal/Baelfire will have to address his unfinished business with both Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and his father (Robert Carlyle), just how much he knew about his character when he signed on to play him, how he approaches such a fantastical character, and his favorite moments this season. Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Collider: When you made your initial appearance on the show, did you know that you’d eventually be returning and just how connected you’d be to some of the characters?

MICHAEL RAYMOND-JAMES: Yeah. At the first meeting I had with Adam [Horowitz] and Eddy [Kitsis], they had it mapped out. At the very first meeting, they really described to me what they had in mind and where the character was going and where he had come from. So, I knew right off the bat what I was ...

When I was recently offered the opportunity to do an interview with actor Donal Logue, to chat with him about his roles on three of my must-watch TV shows – Vikings, Copper and Sons of Anarchy – needless to say, I jumped at the chance. Throw in the fact that that he was on one of my personal favorites – the gone-far-too-soon Terriers – and it was truly one of the most enjoyable interviews that I’ve ever done.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, Donal Logue talked about the amazing and unique opportunity he has to work on three popular drama series simultaneously, how he came to play King Horik on History’s original drama series Vikings (which just wrapped up its highly successful first season) and that he’ll definitely be back for Season 2, the type of character he’ll be playing on BBC America’s Copper, when the series returns for Season 2 on June 23rd, what the experience of doing Sons of Anarchy has been like, and if the success of the Kickstarter campaign for the Veronica Mars movie gives him any more hope that Terriers could return, in some form and at some point. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Collider: How does it feel to be juggling three great shows, with your work on Vikings, Copper and Sons of Anarchy?

DONAL LOGUE: It’s been an amazing opportunity. I think it’s pretty unique. It’s required some good will, on all sides, to sometimes make the scheduling work ...

Set in present-day downtown New York City, the indie drama Generation Um follows John (Keanu Reeves), the quiet and withdrawn driver for an escort service that includes Violet (Bojana Novakovic) and Mia (Adelaide Clemens), two women who are as manipulative as they are beautiful. When John impulsively steals a camcorder, he decides to use it to explore their deepest secrets, pushing their friendship to the limit.

At the film’s press day, actress Bojana Novakovic and writer/director Mark L. Mann spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how the film came about, what the casting process was like, shaping the character dynamics during rehearsals, working with Keanu Reeves, being as open and free as possible during shooting, and the extra footage they have for the DVD release. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

Mark, how did this film come about?

MARK L. MANN: I think the whole thing began with having experienced repetitive patterns in my life. At a certain point, I had a moment to look at them and juxtapose the way the different chapters played out and consider why that happened. And then, I began to take various characters that I had encountered in my life and put them into a story that was representative of the mood that I was trying to describe.

Was there an aspect of the story or any particular character that came first, for you?

MANN: The girls came first. They were actually based on a couple girls that I knew, who were ...

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Patrick Fischler is a successful working actor in both film and television. Having had memorable roles on two iconic television shows – as Jimmy Barrett on the Emmy Award-winning series Mad Men and as part of the Dharma Initiative on Lost – he also had Big Sur, adapted from the work of Jack Kerouac, premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and the action-thriller 2 Guns, starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, opens later this year. On top of all that, Fischler and his actress wife, Lauren Bowles (she plays Holly Cleary on HBO’s True Blood) decided to star in and executive produce their own short film (which she also wrote), called The Test, about a couple at a critical juncture in their relationship.

During this exclusive interview with Collider, actor Patrick Fischler talked about what inspired them to make a short film, how being a real-life couple only added to the experience, the process of finding the right director, how one of the musicians in Snow Patrol ended up writing an original song for the short, how emotional it was to see the finished product, and how he’s inspired to create another project again, in the future. He also talked about the experience of working with Denzel Washington on 2 Guns, making Big Sur, being a part of both Mad Men and Lost, and what his dream role would be. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

At the film’s press day, co-stars Keanu Reeves and Adelaide Clemens spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about what drew them to Generation Um..., exploring their characters’ backstories during the rehearsal period, whether they worried about making their characters likeable, shooting the fun and playful moments that take place during the credits, and what Mark L. Mann was like, as a director on his first narrative feature. Keanu Reeves also talked about why now was the right time to make his directorial debut, with Man of Tai Chi. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

How did this come about for each of you?

KEANU REEVES: I was given the script by the producer, and loved the script and wanted to meet the writer. So, Alison [Palmer Bourke] introduced me to Mark [L. Mann] and we got along. I said to Mark, “Would you like me to play the role?,” and he said, “Yes.” And I said, “Okay, well, I’d like to make the movie.” And we went off and did the film. I just found the script exceptional – the writing, the ...
