At this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration V festivities, George Lucas presented The Daily Show host Jon Stewart with a gift that will be the envy of nerds everywhere: a one-of-a-kind stormtrooper action figure modeled after the comedian, complete with two interchangeable heads.  One head features Stewart’s recently-departed goatee, “Beardy”.  Don’t bother trying to tell yourself you’re not insanely jealous of Jon Stewart because it won’t work.  Trust me.  Hit the jump for pictures of the action figure and video of Stewart’s hour long interview with Lucas where he asks a lot of fan submitted questions.

Jonathan Demme to Direct Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper in HONEYMOON WITH HARRY?

Posted: August 2nd, 2010 at 5:52 pm

Jonathan Demme is reportedly considering directing the Paul Haggis-scripted Honeymoon With Harry, giving the project a good shot at finally getting made after spending six years stalled.  According to Deadline, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro read the lead roles at a New Line read-through several weeks ago.  The film is described as a “James Brooks style” story of two characters who hate each other and are stuck together out of desperation, and it’s based on an unpublished novel by Bart Baker that Paul Haggis adapted and was previously attached to direct with Vice Vaughn and Jack Nicholson potentially starring.  De Niro and Cooper are reportedly already attached, though no deals have been made.  Hit the jump for a more detailed synopsis.

Larry Charles has signed on to direct Pierre Pierre, an upcoming comedy with Jim Carrey attached to star as an obnoxious Frenchman transporting a painting from Paris to London.  Charles recently directed the comparable antics of Sacha Baron Cohen in Borat and Bruno, and will take over the project from Jason Reitman (Juno), who was previously attached to the project before he dropped out.  Deadline reports that Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton sold the script for $1 million two years ago, but following Reitman’s departure from the project and the collapse of Fox Atomic, the project went into turnaround.  Now that Larry Charles has signed on to direct the $20 million film, producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Brian Sher will shop Pierre Pierre to studios once again.

THE EXPENDABLES “Call to Arms” Trailer

The Expendables movie image sllice

The Expendables latest trailer came out a few days ago so we’re a bit late posting this, but we pretty much had to because it’s amazing.  It will remind you why it is your duty as an action fan to see this movie.  This newest trailer is a call to arms for men to take back the box office in the name of “the only men they’re allowed to love.”  The Expendables, which was directed and co-written by star Sylvester Stallone, is opening on August 13th against the Julia Roberts drama Eat, Pray, Love, and like the trailer says, “if this movie loses to Eat, Pray, Love, you don’t deserve to be a man.”  I’m not even a man, and I almost feel like I won’t even deserve to live if I don’t see this movie.

The Batmobile to Appear in ARTHUR Remake?

Posted: July 8th, 2010 at 4:11 pm

Filming is currently underway for Russell Brand’s Arthur remake, and an older model Batmobile was spotted on the set.  According to Cinematical, it’s the Batman Forever model, and it’s one of several cool vintage cars that are being used in the shoot.  The Batmobile sighting kind of makes the Arthur character sound like a man of great insight and decision-making despite the whole “drunken wealthy playboy” issue, because who the hell wouldn’t spend their inheritance on a Batmobile given the chance?  Personally, I’d maybe go in for a street-legal light cycle before I bought the title on a Batmobile.

For those unfamiliar with the plot, Arthur is about a wealthy playboy who may lose his inheritance because his family dislikes his new girlfriend.  Helen Mirren will play the John Gielgud role as Arthur’s caretaker, Jennifer Garner is reportedly playing the woman his parents want him to marry, Greta Gerwig has been cast as the love interest, and Nick Nolte will play her father.  Jason Winer is directing the remake of the classic 1981 comedy, which starred Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli.  Hit the jump for photos of the Batmobile.

New Deleted Scene from TALLADEGA NIGHTS

TALLADEGA NIGHTS slice

Just in case you needed a little more American pride to conclude your 4th of July holiday, this deleted scene from Talladega Nights is nine minutes of Will Ferrell, Chris Isaak, and John C. Reilly as Ricky’s often-ignored sidekick Cal singing about how “if you’re born in America, you’re already number 1.”  The scene wasn’t on the DVD or in the theatrical version, which is a pity because it’s hilarious.  Do you love this country so much it makes your eyes bleed, or because you can start a militia if you have to, or because you are like Ricky and are also aroused by Betsy Ross?  Then you should probably just watch this deleted scene already.

STAR TREK Beams Aboard Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok”

Posted: June 21st, 2010 at 9:00 pm

If anyone has the right to wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy (aside from the P. Diddy), it’s definitely Captain Kirk.  YouTube user MissSheenie’s Star Trek (The Original Series) fan-video set to Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” is amazing, complete with Kirk sluttiness, Spock’s awkward tapdancing, Scotty and Chekov being ridiculously adorable, and even Pon Farr.  And oh dear God, the slash.

Jennifer Lawrence and Max Thieroit Move into HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET

Posted: June 3rd, 2010 at 10:00 pm

Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) and Max Thieriot (Jumper) have been cast in Mark Tonderai’s horror film House at the End of the Street.  Lawrence will play a teenage girl who moves to a new neighborhood and discovers that a double murder occurred in the house across the street.  The girl befriends the crime’s only survivor, played by Theriot.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film “is looking to be to Psycho what Disturbia was to Rear Window.”  Aaron Ryder, Peter Block, and Tim Williams are producing, along with Hal Lieberman and Jonathan Mostow.  David Loucka wrote the script based on a story by Mostow.

Jennifer Lawrence is earning raves for her performance in the indie drama Winter’s Bone, while Max Thieriot recently tested for a lead in Justice League and can next be seen in Wes Craven’s fall release My Soul to Take. Production on House at the End of the Street is set to begin this July in Ottawa.

SURVIVORS The Complete Original Series 1975-77 DVD Review

Posted: June 2nd, 2010 at 6:21 am

Survivors ran on the BBC from 1975 to 1977, and it garnered a sizeable cult following that were likely disappointed by the swift cancellation of the show’s recent remake.  But remakes aside, The Survivors original series DVD set combines all three seasons of a landmark sci-fi series in a collection that is sadly lacking extras but is still quite a good show.  The show is set in England after a Bubonic Plague-like virus kills all but one percent of the population, leaving the remaining few to re-establish some sort of civilization in a world without modern technology.  Survivors has its flaws as a show, waning somewhat in the latter two seasons, but it remains ahead of its time as a sparse, chilling, and surprisingly real apocalyptic vision.  Hit the jump for more on Survivors.

Update on Stephen Norrington’s Reboot of THE CROW

Posted: June 1st, 2010 at 9:20 pm

Writer/director Stephen Norrington’s reboot of The Crow is set to begin filming soon, and producer Edward Pressman gave MTV’s Movies Blog some details about the film.  Pressman promised fans that Norrington’s completed screenplay is “terrific” and Avatar’s production designer Rob Stromberg’s illustrations will help make the film very different from the original.  According to Pressman, an offer is out to an unnamed major actor and production is set to begin later this year.

The film’s setting will be different from the original Crow.  Norrington’s screenplay is set in both the Southwest and an urban area, possibly “Detroit or Pittsburgh.”  The change in locations isn’t the only significant difference, as the reboot will focus more on the mythology of the actual crow as a character with a distinct personality.  Pressman said that this will give it a “more active role” in the story, and Norrington’s visual ideas for the reboot are different from what fans are used to.  Pressman continued by saying that casting announcements are forthcoming.  I guess the main question is who would you like to see in the starring role?
