It is rare for a president to see his life adapted to the big screen while he is still in office. George W Bush had the honors with Oliver Stone’s W in 2008, and equally controversial French president Nicolas Sarkozy’s political life is now the subject of La Conquête (The Conquest).
Described as a thriller, it follows his ambitious rise to power. La Conquête recounts the events between April 27, 2002 and May 6, 2007 and follows Nicolas Sarkozy’s political career, thirst for power and concludes with his ultimate conquest: the presidency of France. (His other conquest, Carla Bruni, came months later.) Hit the jump for more details, photos and the trailer.

When the first publicity shot of Meryl Streep as the former British prime minister for the biopic The Iron Lady was recently released, we were struck by the resemblance. In the latest images from the set, shot in South London earlier this week, Streep, who is known for her perfectionism, appears to have physically altered herself to become Thatcher.

The Green Hornet director Michel Gondry’s next movie will be an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s 1966 science fiction novel, Ubik. The screenplay will remain loyal to Dick’s original text.
This will be the second attempt by a French filmmaker to adapt Dick’s famed work. In 1974, Jean-Pierre Gorin commissioned the writer to adapt his own novel to a screenplay. The movie never got made but Dick’s labor didn’t go entirely to waste – it was instead published as Ubik: The Screenplay.
Highly respected in France, Philip K. Dick is perhaps one of the most popular American sci-fi writers in the world – and Hollywood. Hit the jump to find out which classic movies were inspired by his works.

The images show Salles’ choice of muted colors to depict the Sixties aesthetics and the smoky, hazy Beatnik ambience in which On the Road‘s heroes, Sal and Dean, evolve. Actors Kristen Stewart, Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund look über-cool enough to play the lead roles of the Beat Generation’s most famous protagonists. Hit the jump for the synopsis and images:

Forget the new Starbucks logo. While the coffee’s great, I’m not sure its mermaid design could rival a Darth Vader-inspired “Darth Roast” t-shirt. Designed by tattoo artist Jason C.
