AVATAR 3D Blu-Ray Selling for Over $400 on eBay

by Adam Chitwood    Posted:December 3rd, 2010 at 9:51 am

How badly do you want to see the 3D version of Avatar on Blu-ray right now? Well, it appears that more than a few people are bursting at the seams to visit Pandora in all its 3D glory again ASAP.  Currently, the only way to obtain a copy of the 3D Blu-ray version of the highest grossing film of all time is to purchase a Panasonic 3D TV.  The film is being bundled with Panasonic’s new (2010) VIERA VT Series and GT Series Full HD 3D Plasma TVs. Given that the 3D disc is currently only available by buying the television, some smart-thinking individuals have decided to throw their copies of the film on eBay to see what they can get, and boy are people bidding. Bids currently range from $88 to $435. Now, Panasonic’s 3D Full HD Ultimate Pack, which includes the Avatar disc, is valued at $399.95. However, that includes two pairs of those super expensive electronic 3D glasses.

Hit the jump for why I think this is crazy.

Here’s the kicker: unless you have a medical condition from which you will die unless you obtain the 3D version of Avatar on Blu-ray as soon as humanly possible, paying upwards of $300 for it on eBay is absolutely insane. Cameron has already announced that Fox plans to release the 3D Blu-ray sometime in the near future.  Always the high-minded business man, Cameron wanted to wait until enough 3D television sets were available to release the 3D version of Avatar, in order to reap the most benefit from the release. So, if you’re running out of blue body paint and positively cannot wait another minute to supplement your fan-fiction by watching the film for the 22nd time, by all means go ahead and break the bank. I’ll be grabbing the disc when it’s officially released, for list price, like a sane person.

Anyone who spends that much on ANY Blu-Ray, regardless of which movie, is fucking stupid. Period.

I bought the 3 disc edition only. Don’t own a 3DTV. Won’t for years to come. I’m happy. I too think this is insane. Not like Avatar is really all that good a flick anyway. Only bought it because I knew it was the only way I could see the extended cut

You can call anything you want. I paid the $300 and loved it. One of the best $300 I have ever spend. Just to let you know, I’m not insane, just got to $300 to spend on a movie. Just like some people drives Mercedes and some Toyata. Are you saying the folks who drives Mercedes are insane? So long…

    • Stanley @

Its a movie….That will only last 3 hours or whatever….you really think you will watch it everyday like a person does with a mercedes by driving it everyday?….congratz!
in the next few years you will say what the hell was I thinking?
because in like a year or so they will release the blu-ray 3D Avatar anyways…..you dun’goofed

its a crazy price because this movie sucked ass. Inglorious bastards, mr fox, and crazy heart shit on this movie and heart and fox should have been nominated over this piece of shit. one star for this film, visual effects are cool but not as cool as good writing, acting and characters. All cameron did is rip off other movies than added top notch effects. The most overrated film ever.

    @iphone

your car comparison is completely off. for one, the difference in price shows off a difference in car.

outrageously overpaying for a blu-ray disc because at the moment it is in short availability shows that you are an impatient pretentious prick.

congratulations… you know how to waste money. winner.

and the studios wonder why people download illegally….. if you are such a person the full blu ray in 3d is easy to find – i’d love to purchase a copy but it seems the studio won’t play ball.

The only way I would consider spending anything more than $25 for a single Blu-Ray release was if it was a copy of The Big Lebowski 2: Donnie’s Revenge.

This is crap. People should write to Panasonic and Fox showing their disgust for this. I’ll never buy anything Panasonic again. And people need to NOT buy this and let this little promotion tank.

Hell ya! I totally agree with you! An insanely business plan, completely off the reservation!!! Is outrageous how people think: “you want this? well, you have buy that” …
