BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Set Image Reveals a Different Look at Henry Cavill’s New Costume

Judging by some of the reaction to this picture, it appears as though there are some slight shifts away from the established Man of Steel look in Henry Cavill‘s costume for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  Not that I can tell.  I’ve seen Man of Steel exactly once and don’t really plan on seeing it again to see if I can spot some minute differences.  This set image (obviously) adds more color to the costume than the official still from last month, and I suppose it’s interesting to see the painted-on muscle patterns in the light of day.  But, on the whole, I think this is a less interesting development than the picture of Scoot McNairy as (potentially) The Flash.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is currently filming in Detroit under the direction of Zack Snyder for a March 2016 release.  The film also stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Jesse Eisenberg.  Hit the jump for the Batman v Superman Henry Cavill set image.

THE DROP Clips and Images Featuring Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, and James Gandolfini in One of His Final Roles

the-drop-clips-images

Fox Searchlight has released three new clips and some new images from The Drop.  In the film Tom Hardy plays Bob, a former criminal and current bartender working at a bar that serves as a money “drop” for local gangsters.  When the bar gets robbed, Bob and his cousin/employer Marv (James Gandolfini) find themselves in the crosshairs of an investigation and the criminal underworld.

I could go either way on this movie.  It looks like a perfectly good thriller that has been marinating a bit too long in the “tough guys in a tough neighborhood doing tough things” tropes that a lot of filmmakers follow too far down the rabbit hole.  On the other hand it also looks like it might balance that out with a genuinely deft touch.  It also has a great cast and a well-regarded director in Bullhead helmer Michaël R. Roskam and it marks one of Gandolfini’s final performances.  Hit the jump to check out The Drop clips and images (also watch the trailer if you missed it). The film also stars Matthias Schoenaerts,  Noomi Rapace, John Ortiz, Ann Dowd, and James Frecheville.  It opens on September 12th.

AUTOMATA Trailer: Antonio Banderas Faces a Robot Uprising in Sci-Fi Thriller

Millennium Entertainment has released the first Automata trailer for director Gabe Ibáñez’s upcoming sci-fi thriller.  The I, Robot-esque story takes place in the year 2044 where robots are ubiquitous and operate under two fundamental laws that prevent them from harming humans or themselves.  Antonio Banderas plays an insurance agent of the ROC robotic corporation who discovers that the robots may be more human than people are led to believe.  Though we’ve seen this story many times before, the film actually looks quite good.  Dylan McDermott fills the role of the robot-hating human, while Ibáñez imbues the picture with a washed out aesthetic reminiscent of Blade Runner that reflects the dire nature of humanity.

The WE tv drama series The Divide follows Christine Rosa (Marin Ireland), a whip-smart caseworker with a knack for getting herself in and out of trouble, and Adam Page (Damon Gupton), the youngest DA in the history of Philadelphia, both on opposite sides of a case where the outcome could either protect or destroy their reputations.  Created by Tony Goldwyn and Richard LaGravenese, the show also stars Nia Long, Paul Schneider, Joe Anderson and Clarke Peters.

During this exclusive interview with Collider, co-stars Marin Ireland and Damon Gupton talked about how they came to this show, auditioning for Tony Goldwyn, who is acclaimed as both an actor and director, what attracted them to these characters, shooting the first pilot about a year and a half ago, how things changed and evolved, the research they did for these roles, and where things are headed for the remainder of the season.  Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Showtime Renews MASTERS OF SEX and RAY DONOVAN for Season 3

Fresh off AMC’s decision to bring Halt and Catch Fire back for another season, Showtime has ordered Masters of Sex Season 3 and Ray Donovan Season 3.  Both shows received 12-episode orders for a third season, set to debut in early 2015.  I haven’t seen either, but Masters of Sex is high on my list of shows I need to catch up on.  Lizzy Caplan has earned rave reviews for her lead performance, garnering an Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series along with a bevy of Emmy nods for the show in general.  The series averages four million weekly viewers across all platforms while Ray Donovan averages five million, so bringing both shows back was a no-brainer for Showtime.  Read the full press release after the jump.

I’ve got to admit, I didn’t think The November Man was anything special.  Sure, it’s based on some popular source material, but the film is getting a late August release and the trailer is a little hokey, too.  Regardless, the folks at Relativity Studios think they’ve got something good here because the studio just announced that it’s entering pre-production on the sequel even before the first film comes out on August 27th.

The November Man stars Pierce Brosnan as Peter Devereaux, a former CIA agent who gives up his quiet life in Switzerland for one last mission.  Hit the jump for more on Relativity’s plan to move forward with The November Man 2.

Director Jon Favreau is already in production on his nearly entirely CG-animated The Jungle Book for Disney, but Warner Bros. has now filled out the cast for its own adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling story.  Andy Serkis directs the terribly titled Jungle Book: Origins, and fresh off the news that Benedict Cumberbatch will be voicing Shere Khan, THR reports that Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, Tom Hollander, Eddie Marsan, and Peter Mullan have joined the cast.  Moreover, Bad Words star Rohan Chand has been selected to fill the live-action role of Mowgli.  The film will be a mix of motion-capture, CG animation, and live-action with Serkis also set to star as Baloo.

AMC Renews HALT AND CATCH FIRE for Season 2

After the season finale only accumulated 574,000 viewers, it looked as though AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire would never make it to season 2.  On top of that, the only time it broke a million viewers was season premiere night.  Otherwise, the numbers ranged from 970,000 down to a lackluster 550,000.  But, it turns out, AMC still has faith in the series because it was just renewed and will air again next summer.

For those of you who have missed out, Halt and Catch Fire picks up about a year before IBM unleashes the very first IBM personal computer.  Lee Pace leads as Joe MacMillan, an ex-IBM executive who’s determined to beat them to it, even if it means running the risk of getting into some serious trouble in the process.  Hit the jump for more on the Halt and Catch Fire season 2 renewal.

Exclusive THE GUEST Poster Featuring Dan Stevens in Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett’s Latest

You think you know what Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett are capable of?  Think again.  Their past work including You’re Next and their contributions to V/H/S, V/H/S 2 and The ABCs of Death are still great and all, but their latest feature, The Guest, is like nothing you’ve ever seen before.  It stars Dan Stevens as David, a soldier who shows up at the Peterson family’s door claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action.  The Guest does have a horror quality to it, but it’s more of a bloody action thriller than anything, and an expertly stylized one at that.

With The Guest making its way into theaters in less than a month, on September 17th, Collider’s got the honor of unveiling a brand new poster for the film.  Click here to read Matt’s review and hit the jump to check out that exclusive The Guest poster.  The film also stars Maika MonroeLeland OrserSheila KelleyBrendan Meyer and Lance Reddick.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Dennis Haysbert (who plays Manute, the mysterious, loyal and lethal bodyguard who has served many of Sin City’s most powerful figures) talked about why he wanted to be a part of this universe, how he came to take over this role from Michael Clarke Duncan (who played Manute in the first film), how quickly he took to the green screen process, how much wearing the chauffeur’s outfit from hell helped to inform his performance, his character’s motivations, what most impressed him about the way that Robert Rodriguez works, and how much he admired Eva Green’s work ethic and talent.  He also talked about what led him back to TV for Fox’s Backstrom, and the experience of working on Men, Women & Children with director Jason Reitman.  Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

New HALLOWEEN Movie is on Track and It’s Not Called HALLOWEEN: THE NEXT CHAPTER

The plan to make another Halloween movie has been around for quite some time now.  Remember when Halloween 3D was set for a 2010 release, then got bumped to 2012 and then it was removed from The Weinstein Company’s schedule entirely?  Well, apparently that isn’t stopping Dimension Films and producer Malek Akkad from trying to make it happen again.

It was just reported that a script for the next installment, Halloween: The Next Chapter, will be turned in in the fall of 2015 and that it won’t be a direct sequel to the Rob Zombie films.  However, then Akkad chimed in to refute those claims.  Hit the jump to find out how it all played out.
