With James Cameron’s Avatar getting re-released on August 27, Fox has released a new poster which you can check out after the jump. Unlike the previous release, this poster says special edition and it has the tag line:
“Back on the big screen in 3D with never-before-seen footage for a limited time only.”
While some of you might not care enough about Avatar to see it again in its limited theatrical re-release, I’m definitely going to check it out one more time as I want to see the deleted scenes in 3D and on the big screen. The big question is…how many people are going to pay to see it in a movie theater when you can pay the same price to own it on DVD and Blu-ray?
Here’s the press release about the re-release and the dates it opens around the world:
On August 27, return to Pandora and re-experience James Cameron’s History-Making Epic film, with more than Eight Minutes of Never Before Seen Footage- exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX® 3D. Since – and largely as of result of – AVATAR’s release last December, the number of available digital 3D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D, as well as fans that want to return to Pandora again, will now have that opportunity.
The Oscar® and Golden Globe® winning epic is the highest grossing film of all time, taking in over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office. It is also the top-selling Blu-ray disc of all time.

Hmm. It is nice that some people get to see it in 3D, the movie isn't worth a darn without the 3D so I always feel shame when I hear people watching it on home video.
Not if they have the new 3D HD LED Television sets!
I predict that there's going to be an even LONGER version on DVD/Blu-Ray. 9 minutes fills the IMAX limit for a film. Anything over they wouldn't be able to show the film in IMAX. I'm not sayin' it's bad, I'm just sayin.'
Don't like AVATAR, it's just “Pocahontas in space”. Boring.
Hit the nail on the proverbial head my friend — the film sucked!! Great special effects but the story wasn't that hot! Or anything else with it for that matter…..
