Though there wasn’t really any concern about them not coming back, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana have now officially solidified their deals to star in all three of the upcoming Avatar sequels.  Heat Vision confirms that Worthington and Saldana will be reprising their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri, and while plot details for this trio of films are under wraps, the report notes that Sully and Neytiri will have children.  The first actor to sign on for all three films was Stephen Lang, and the announcement of his casting took away any stakes we had with regards to his character surviving or dying in the next two movies.

Director James Cameron is co-writing Avatar 2, 3, and 4 with Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno, respectively.  We know that filming will take place entirely in New Zealand, and Cameron plans on shooting all three pics at once when production gets underway later this year.  Avatar 2 is finally slated for release December 2016, with the other two films following in December 2017 and 2018.

Its becoming a joke at this point, also these are the only movies Sam Worthington is getting cast in anymore since he’s not good for anything else.

    • Leo Spaceman

After the contract he just signed, when he finishes with these films he probably won’t give two s**ts about getting another paycheck again in his life.

      • cezar211091 .

i think you’re confusing him with some guy called george lucas

    • HeSaidSheSaidReviewSite

There was a point where these sequels weren’t considered a joke?

7 years of waffling on, who gives a fu…..

    • Jason Richards

Millions of people who helped the first film make billions…….

7 years of reading posts about a film you seem to hate. Who gives a F? You do apparently, enough to read the article, and comment.

      • cezar211091 .

        haha,you tell him.

  • Wilsonvolleyball

Wow, now there are three more? Thought there were just two sequels. Anyhow, the first film was a cinema experience with all the hype, the 3D (then, something special) and the rare situation that all kinds of people had seen a film set on a different planet with aliens and spaceships.

BUT, the film itself was a disappointment. The story was predictable, the characters cardboard and the alien design could have been more inventive (at least with the Na’vi). Worst of all, besides the visuals, it wasn’t really enjoyable or fun.

Still, I’m curious where the sequels will go. It would be nice to see them walking on another alien planet meeting a more advanced species and stop with the noble savage stuff. They could meet cool snail people on one of Pandoras moons….or if they go through with the underwater thing, meet the aliens from Abyss again….But don’t repeat the evil corporations vs. environment thing.

    • Leo Spaceman

No, they are just going to go see other tribes on the same moon that they are already on. There has been a lot of talk about the next film taking place on the ocean of Pandora, but this time with the Governator apparently. But I agree the movie really isn’t that good. I was really let down by it and didn’t think it was anything special and everyone who says that it is just Pochatus with a bigger budget is absolutely right. I don’t like James Cameron. From everything I have ever read about him, it seems like he is a truly nasty human being with a terrible ego. I don’t think he deserves the hype he gets, he is just narcissistic enough to demand it. And as far as his artistic talent goes, it is all very derivative. He lauds it as great when in reality I don’t think it is anything special or ground breaking, it just looks like a carbon copy of other work that has come before it.

I just don’t like James Cameron as a human being and if you ever read about what other say about him, particularity the people who have worked with him, you would probably agree. The only upside to working with him is probably the paycheck.

everyone who says that it is just Pochatus with a bigger budget is absolutely right.

And everybody who says “West Side Story” is just a modern “Romeo and Juliet” with music is absolutely right.

      • JBug

        1. It acknowledges that it is Romeo and Juliet.
        2. It elevates the story through its music, dancing and style.

I agree, it didn’t bring anything new to the story while pretending to be highly innovative. And technically it was, except for the Na’vi design. I just wished it would have taken more chances and didn’t just follow the safest path….old story without change in perspective or character, sexy humanlike aliens and a love story on top.

Did you seriously just compare Avatar to West Side Story?

Have you actually *seen* West Side Story?

  • Drake

At the moment, I really wonder if anyone cares.
That said, when its released, it’ll be grossing over a billion dollars no problem.

december 2016? we’ll be knee deep in star wars by then.

  • yrulaughing418

Jake and Neytiri having children would be kinda weird since he’s half human/half N’avi (4 fingers) whereas she’s full N’avi (3 fingers).

their children will have horrible birth defects

me personally im glad Stephen Lang is going to be in all three. he was my favorite person in the first one. Plus i hope it leads to more high profile work for him.

    • DJango39000

He’s personally expressed interest in portraying Cable, in the X-men franchise. I personally love to see him given that opportunity.
He was the real standout in Avatar. Hell, if they want my money, they should just make Quaritch the main character & somehow make the audience sympathize with the devil. I’m sure he could sell it! Worthington … not so sure. (But I’m open to being proven wrong)

  • DjangoBro

Some of you guys are such haters… You guys complain about 3 more Avatar films but jump for joy for 3 more Star Wars films and spin-offs… I don’t get it.

    • eternalozzie

avatar is made of suck …. star wars is made of warm marshmallows and graham crackers.

  • eternalozzie

Please … the first movie was terrible enough … don’t make us watch anymore … and 3D is dead folks so there is no gimmick/reason to watch these.

  • The Flobbit

The only purpose these news snippets serve is to remind me that Sam Worthington exists. Because honestly, I’m going to forget in a few minutes.

  • The Flobbit

The only thing that could make me want to watch these is a dramatic change of tone, an injection of the Rock or Arnie, a really good screenwriter (Joe Cornish, Drew Pearce, John Logan), and a fun tone.

    • cezar211091 .

flobbit,my man,you don’t like avatar?it wasn’t the best movie in the world but it was great and it transported me to a place of wonder.i love the idea of a movie set in the jungles of a distant planet.anyway,it could have been much better

    • cezar211091 .

i agree, and arnold would be awesome

There a lot of arguing about the story and that it has been done already and then there are the people argue many stories have been done, that there are storyline archetypes….and they’re right.

For me, the story itself could have worked but combined with other shortcomings, it felt just like a rip-off. Had Avatar offered likeable characters with a bit more to them than “combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul” (Cameron) or if it had shook up the elements a bit….like doing it from the perspective of a native alien race which is less like American natives. It could have been the same story but a different take if we would discover that our good friend was in fact just an Avatar.

For me, besides being a nice effect reel, it had no outstanding aspect which would make up for some mediocre points.

Shit we planning to go all the way to 4? Let’s see how the second one does before we get ahead of ourselves.
