Though the actor made no secret of the fact that he was in ongoing negotiations to join the ensemble of Joss Whedon’s Marvel sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Aaron Taylor-Johnson had thus far yet to be officially announced as one of the film’s castmembers.  Now it appears that scheduling issues have all been worked out, as The Wrap reports that Taylor-Johnson has closed his deal to play Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver in The Avengers sequel.  There was concern over whether the filming schedule of Age of Ultron would conflict with Taylor-Johnson’s promotional duties on Godzilla, which opens next May.  All is well, though, and the actor will be fighting alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Co. when The Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.

Taylor-Johnson is one of three new castmembers to be added to the Marvel universe, as Elizabeth Olsen is onboard to play Quicksilver’s sister Scarlet Witch and James Spader will be playing the pic’s baddie, the titular evil robot Ultron.

    Perfect!

Good actor, he fits right between the actors. Hope the film is better than the first.

    • Norman Dostal

since everyoene agrees the first one was excellent and it is one of the most successful movies of all time, that is asking a lot, mister!!

      • Nomis1700

I do not belief everyone agrees that the first one is excellent (but probably a lot, I give you that) and yes it is one of the most successful movies.

The Avengers got the team-up nicely and that’s pretty much it. Never a sense of real danger, nor that the stakes are actually pretty high and at the end, it wasn’t really about anything.

      • Michael Singer

You’re right, THE VAST MAJORITY of people believe that the first film was excellent. There are always people who disagree, but they are a very small minority in this case.

      • herp derp

Aliens spewing out of a wormhole over New York destroying the city and a nuke being shot into the heart of the city certainly were lacking in the stakes.

Just like you, they did this in the film to say there was a lot at stake. But that’s the problem, there was never a real sense of danger. Nor that the heroes may not be up to it. They just solved it like it was nothing. Making a joke here and there because you know, we just do this, no one dies and such. And then the mothership got blown up and all the aliens were defeated! I couldn’t help myself but laugh at the simplicity and stupidity of it.

Now I don’t know much of the character itself. Does Quicksilver have an accecnt? I wonder if Aaron will be able to speak in his english tongue.

  • Mekt_Ranzz

I think one of the main reasons why this character was added to Avengers 2 is so Marvel could get the cinematic jump on a fleet-footed superhero way before DC introduced the Flash.

    • cloud720

too bad fox got the jump on marvel and DC

      • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

I’m pretty sure Whedon did this just to piss off Singer, and to start the bridge between Fox and marvel.

      • Bob

Whedon announced they would be in it before Singer announces Quicksilver in Days of Future Past.

      • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

And? He’s still a well established character in the X-Men franchise. X-Men DoFP was already in the works (while Quicksilver may not have been revealed) For Whedon to say “I’m using Scarlet and Quicksilver” is a slap in the face to FOX.

This move by both directors is going to make it impossible for people Not to make the connection.

“wait… but…. don’t they have another fast white haired guy in The Avengers??? They copied X-Men” To then “wait… oh….they are the same guy….. Oh…”
Which then creates the inevitable bridge between companies.

      • Bob

No, its not a slap in the face…they were Avengers before they were X-Men…

      • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

I’m not being negative about this, I find it quite humorous actually. It is a slap in the face to Fox. its Joss saying “Oh… YOU own these rights?..well (blooooop) Now these two are going to be in My movie.” I also never referred to them as members of the X-men, because I know they were avengers before they became members of the X-men. But they were established in the franchise as members in The Brotherhood of Mutants, and of course the children of Magneto. That is the point of my post. Thank you for seeing past that.

      • Bob

Well what Im saying is its not a slap in the face to fox. Fox actually slapped Marvel (Disney). Joss said first he was using these characters and then Singer came out of no where and was like…well I am to. And my point of saying they were Avengers first is they have every right to be in this film and for Whedon to use them.

      • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

Considering Fox already owns the rights to the characters in Xmen, I still see this as Joss laughing at Fox. (We’ve already seen a “version” of Quicksilver in the Fox franchise.) He’s not unheard of. I get what you’re saying, but I still see this as a chess game where Whedon made the first taunting move. Then Fox trying to counter it, but ultimately the “damage” will be done, too many similarities for people not to notice. Which is awesome.

    • kim

i think they did it because Whedon has always been a huge fan of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. He included them in his comic run and he based River and Simon off of them in Serenity

  • Strong Enough

So are they going to say Mutant? how are they going to explain his powers?

    • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

      they might not

      • Michael Singer

They’re are a number of possible explanations. The brain slot thing that Killian mentioned in IM 3 perhaps? They could also potentially be Inhumans, since Marvel clearly is interested in that franchise. Maybe they got their powers from exposure to Chitauri tech from the first film? Or they could be something else entirely, the possibilities are numerous.

      • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

there are many many many other words that can be used outside of “inhumans” and “mutants”….metahuman is out because of DC, but there are still many scientific terms for what a mutation is, without saying the word “mutant”

      calm down f.aggot

    • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

      Congratulations! you’re retarded!

  • Melwing

Pretty interesting that both guys playing Quicksilver were major characters in ‘Kick-Ass’.

    • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

they’ve probably had a sit down about it. Nothing business related, probably two former co-workers getting together.

  • The Flobbit

How are they going to reconcile the fact that these two superheroes are children of Magneto, an X-Man which is owned by Fox? Probably with cheeky, cheesy injokes with typically Joss Whedon dialogue. I am losing faith in the man each time I see Agent’s of SHIELD. It’s the actors I like here, not the director.

    • Gaebora

Joss Wheedon has almost nothing to do with Agents of SHIELD…..

      • The Flobbit

He produced it and directed the first episode. He has considerable creative input.

      • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

As much input as Dan harmon had for Season 4 of Community.

i believe the best way to defend this repetitive (Oh wtf Joss, AoS Sucks!) is with a quote from Kevin Feige that was just released. “Joss has been focused 100%, and has been for the better part of the year, On Avengers Age of Ultron”
he essentially created the characters, and the all around tie-ins with the moves.

he had no input on casting and left the rest of the series in the hands of 3 main people. 1 of which is Jed (his brother) who loves the campy cheesy jokes, and his wife, who stands beside them.

So. While the characters couldve been liked, its the writing that was left in others hands, and the casting that most people have problems with.

So. He doesn’t have as much input as you’d think.

Also if you go to IMDB and look at each episode, you’ll notice that they have different directors/writers for almost every episode.

    • Melwing

They aren’t allowed to use the word ‘mutant’ or reference them being Magneto’s children.

And, I’m not defending him (though I typically like his work, and do agree that SHIELD is not going very well), but Joss has very little to do with SHIELD.

      • The Flobbit

        Yeah, but that’s a very half-assed way out…

      • Melwing

It’s not a “way out”, it’s legally the fact that they aren’t allowed to use the words. I don’t really see why Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch needed to be added into The Avengers, but since they are- who cares if they use the “M” word or not? It really doesn’t matter as far as storytelling. These are NOT the comic books.

      • The Flobbit

Meself thinks Singer and Whedon are having a little headbutting, since both cast Quicksilver in their films within hours. Well I’ll tell you which one I look forward to more: X-Men: Days of Future Past, and I hope it smokes the competition. I will also watch Avengers 2, of course, but Singer gets my vote here.

      • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

So.. .you’re looking forward to the film that has strayed from the original writing from the comics, more than any superhero movie? Kudos. What was your take on X-Men The Last Stand?

      • The Flobbit

The Last Stand was Brett Ratner crapping all over everything.

      • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

        Whats a half-assed way out?

      • The Flobbit

Just NOT referencing that they’re infringing on Fox’s copyrights.

      • Dooon’t stop belieeevin’

        huh?

So wait. are you saying its half-assed to just not include their background or what they are.

or that its half-assed that he’s not addressing that he’s using copyrighted characters by Fox? I’m sorry, your context is hella confusing.

I assume its the first, and not the latter. in which, that’s the deal. You want to think it’s half assed, take it up with Fox. They were the ones who set the boundaries.

Also you’re basing this “half-assed” assumption on something you have yet to see, you have no idea how Whedon will explain the two. So let’s just wait until 2015.

      • The Flobbit

Look: everything is half-assed okay? You are half-assed.
