Is talking about Avengers: Age of Ultron's theatrical release already passe? Because new rumors are focusing on Phase 2: home release. Apparently (according to those who have seen it), many scenes from Ultron's trailer don't make it into the theatrical release, meaning that fans will be getting an extended release at some point that is closer to Joss Whedon's initial 3-hour version (which he confirmed in a recent Collider interview).

That version may come sooner than later, though, as an email from Amazon UK about pre-ordering the home release has also confirmed not only that the movie will contain that extended version, but that it will also include an alternate ending. This is also interesting because it seems like Marvel won't be holding back on a ton of features for a (presumable) future box set release, which should certainly make fans happy, at least.

Now, as for this alternate ending -- it cannot presumably be all that different than what is part of the theatrical release, given the emphasis on continuity within the increasingly sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, one wonders ...

Not having seen it yet, I cannot speculate on what the differences might be, but feel free to discuss the rumors and possibilities in the comments. We ask though that you refrain from posting any actual spoilers from the movie since it won't be in wide release for another week. It's the neighborly thing!

In the meantime, if you want to revisit the first Avengers movie or any of the previous Marvel films, check out Matt's retrospective on the series so far.
