The Avengers 2 doesn’t open until May 1, 2015, but it’s never too early for some good, old-fashioned rumor-mongering.  The Daily Mail, which is a reliable source when it comes to set photos or movies that are about to start filming, is reporting that Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson (Luther) are being considered to play the role of Ms. Marvel in Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers 2.  I’m surprised that Marvel is already as the casting stage considering that the film probably doesn’t have a finished script yet, and that the movie preceding it, Guardians of the Galaxy, hasn’t even begun casting.  While I supposed it’s possible that Marvel and Whedon know they want Ms. Marvel, and they’ve got two front-runners for the role, I find this rumor incredibly difficult to believe.

If you’d like to know a bit more about Ms. Marvel, hit the jump.

Like most superheroes, Ms. Marvel (a.k.a. Carol Danvers) has a long and complicated history.  Here’s the key info about her origin via the Marvel wiki:

Captain Marvel’s mortal enemy, Colonel Yon-Rogg kidnapped Carol, using her as bait in his conflict with Mar-vell. In the course of the battle, Carol and Mar-vell were caught in the explosion of a Kree Psyche-Magneton device. The energy bombardment somehow caused Carol’s genetic structure to be melded with Mar-vell’s. While Mar-vell was apparently unaltered by the event, Carol was now a perfect hybrid of Kree and human genes. In addition, she possessed all of Mar-vell’s Kree knowledge and training. Through this transformation, Ms. Marvel was born.

[Note: the "Kree" are an alien race in the Marvel Universe]  The character’s current set of superpowers includes “flight, enhanced strength, durability, and the ability to shoot concussive energy bursts from her hands.”

Can’t really see either of them as Ms Marvel. Honestly, Marvel should steal Adrianne Palicki from Warner Bros. failed Wondy pilot. She would make a GREAT Ms. Marvel.

I would not dignify these u.k. tabloid ‘reports’ by repeating them on a proper movie site like Collider. Remember, these are the same British tabloids that reported that Eddie Murphy was going to play the Riddler and ‘TDKR’, and reported back in the day just before ‘The Matrix’ came out, that “friends were concerned” by Keanu Reeves’ dramatic ‘weight-loss and baldness’ – failing to acknowledge that shots of him were taken from the movie set of The Matrix…

They actually pay people to make this S**t up for the tabloids.

That said, I could see Katee Sackoff playing Miss Marvel…

Nobody cares if you find it hard to believe Goldberg, just report the story and move on. Also, considering Phase 2 seems to be decidedly heading towards other worlds away from Earth (Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor 2, Thanos, Marvels attempt to bring back Surfer and Galactus) It makes perfect sense for the Kree, (Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, etc.) to show up and ally with the Avengers.

And Blunt looked smoking hot as a blonde in Looper.

The Daily Mail isn’t really considered fit to wipe your @rse with in the UK, so I doubt they’d have the heads up on anything like this.

I dunno, none of these cut it for me…I know everyone wants Yvonne Strahovski, but after watching Once Upon A Time I really feel Jennifer Morrison would be great as Ms. Marvel!
