When we first learned that Scarlet Witch would be joining the team for Marvel’s sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron, it was pretty clear that some tweaking would need to be done in order for the comics costume to translate to a feature film.  Not only is the comic book character’s costume, um, revealing, but it’s also incredibly impractical.  Production is now firmly underway on The Avengers 2 under the direction of Joss Whedon in South Africa, and Elizabeth Olsen recently talked a bit about her costume for Scarlet Witch, confirming that it is indeed a bit different from the character’s comic book garb.  Hit the jump to read her comments.

the-avengers-2-scarlet-witchSpeaking with Total Film (via Superhero Movie News), Olsen briefly discussed her costume for Scarlet Witch:

“I don’t think Joss ever would have hired me, honestly, if he wanted me to wear those outfits; I am not a professional athlete and nor am I a model. Wearing those costumes wouldn’t be fun for anyone who wasn’t those things. He already had a different idea. It respects and involves the comic book character but it’s different, more rooted. It’s for someone today…Well, if someone walked around wearing what she wore in the comics, people would stop and say, ‘What the hell… she thinks she’s a superhero!’”

Olsen noted that she has a specially made secrecy cloak to prevent onlookers from snapping early glances while she travels to and from set, but with filming poised to move from South Africa to London soon, it’ll be nearly impossible for Marvel to keep everything away from public view.  We’ll see the character in action when The Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters May 1, 2015.
