Marvel has announced that they’ll be releasing the first trailer for The Avengers on Tuesday.  Since the movie is still seven months away, I imagine there will be more title cards and graphics than actual footage, but one can hope.  More than anything, I’m curious to see how Joss Whedon’s take on the Marvel Universe will differ from previous directors if at all.  We know that Whedon can handle the dialogue and character relationships, but aside from Serenity, his directing experience is for the small screen and The Avengers is a movie with an epic scope.

Be sure to check back on Tuesday for the trailer and click here for the recently-released images from the movie.  The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson.  The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012.

I can’t imagine the pressure Whedon feels for this movie. Whedon has a strange fan following, they all consider him the brilliant under appreciated director. Studio’s and networks are all out to get him, and destroy his artform (Firefly, Angel). Now he finally gets a job that is a huge scope and within the realm he is most comfortable in; superheroes. Die hard fans will stand by him if it fails, blaming huge actors ego’s and studios. Other audiences will continue to believe he is mediocre. Or it will be a movie that pushes the superhero film further, and gives more credit to die hard fans, while still entertaining everyone.

Either way, hopefully all the pressure makes a diamond.
