A new Barely Lethal trailer for director Kyle Newman’s (Fanboys) upcoming action comedy has been released online. The film stars Hailee Steinfeld as a teenage assassin who’s a master of lethal techniques, but doesn’t quite want to live the life of a killer. She decides to fake her death and try being a normal high school student, but she can’t escape her training or old foes.

This new official trailer isn’t terribly different from the previous international one, but what I like most about it is that the film reminds me of the kinds of teen-centric movies they made in the 90s. She’s All That, American Pie, and Can’t Hardly Wait may not be considered “high art” (though I’d argue Clueless most definitely is), but they’re a hell of a lot of fun. Those kinds of films are few and far between these days; they’ve been replaced by mega-budget superhero movies or vaguely sci-fi YA adaptations. What happened to plain old human beings?

Anyway, while Barely Lethal still has a slight genre bent in the way of deadly assassins, it looks like it has the potential to be a lot of fun. Check out the new trailer below, via A24 Films. The movie also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Jessica Alba, Sophie Turner, and Dove Cameron. Barely Lethal will be available on DirecTV starting April 30th and hits theaters and VOD on May 29th.
