Barry was one of the best surprises of 2018; a little show on HBO starring Bill Hader as a hitman who stumbles into a love of acting. That first season was an emotional rollercoaster, able to make viewers laugh or cry with startling intensity. Though the premise of the Barry is an inherently silly one that is primed for humor, Bill Hader gives such a soulful performance that it elevated it to something else. He is both a cold-hearted killer, and a man who is finally waking up to his own emotions and desires. It’s surprisingly beautiful!
But Season 1 also ended with a pretty big cliffhanger that this teaser doesn’t address — I won’t spoil it if you aren’t caught up yet, but Barry takes a drastic action to preserve the happy life he seems to have finally achieved for himself, something that puts his future into jeopardy.
We don’t know much about Season 2 yet, except the directors, which were revealed back in August: “For Season 2, Hader and Alec Berg will each direct two episodes, while acclaimed Atlanta director Hiro Murai—who directed two Season 1 episodes—is also returning to helm two episodes of Season 2. Rounding out the list are two Barry newcomers each helming one episode: Liza Johnson (Elvis & Nixon) and Minkie Spiro (Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife).”
Barry ranked as one of my picks for the Best TV Shows of 2018, and if you’re caught up or just starting, you’ll want to make sure you catch Adam Chitwood’s exclusive interviews with Hader on Episode 5, Episode 6, Episode 7, and a deep-dive into that finale.
Barry also stars Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan, and Henry Winkler. Check out the first Season 2 trailer below:
