Opening this weekend is the third film in the Men in Black franchise.  Barry Sonnenfeld returns as director and the story finds Will Smith’s Agent J travelling back in time to save Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent K.  In addition to Bill Hader as Andy Warhol, Josh Brolin plays a younger version of Jones’ character and does an incredible job.  You’ll absolutely think you’re watching Jones as a young man.  Men in Black 3 also stars Jemaine Clement, Alice Eve, and Emma Thompson.  In addition, make-up effects artist Rick Baker returns to the franchise and you can see some of his creature work here.  For more on the film, here’s all our previous coverage.

Last week I got to speak with most of the cast and every day this week I’ve been posting new interviews.  If you missed them, here’s Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. Up next is director Barry Sonnenfeld.  During the interview we talked about his Oscar-caliber performance in MIB3 where he’s falling alongside Will Smith, the pros and cons of filming in NYC, what people might be surprised to learn about Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, and more.  Hit the jump to watch.

In addition, a few weeks ago I did an exclusive phone interview with Sonnenfeld that covered a lot more on the making of the film.  Click here if you missed it.

Barry Sonnenfeld

  • Did he just finish the movie
  • Talks about his Oscar caliber performances in MIB3 where he’s falling alongside Will Smith. Talks about why he doesn’t have any lines
  • The pros and cons of filming in NYC when you have huge crowds watching everything
  • What would people be surprised to learn about Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.  Also, has he ever seen Will Smith get mad

  1. Is the double load glitch ever going to be fixed on this site? It’s rather annoying to try and watch a video, watch half the ad, whole page reloads, and then watch the entire ad again.

    /first world problems

  2. I like your interviews but don’t tell your subject at the end you have to go! haha It seemed kind of rude.

    Keep up the great work!

    • You have to realize he only gets about 4-7 mins during these press events. it’s not his time crunch but the studio’s are flowing reporters in every 4-7 mins.

      • I know what’s going on but it just seemed funny when he was telling Sonnenfeld that he was the one that had to go because he was out of time. It just seemed rude which I know was not what he intended and also I’m sure it was a schedule they were all following but to end the interview that way was just odd. Edit it out or just don’t say it. Either way I really enjoy these interviews. Sorry to nitpick! Keep them coming and thank you!

As an aside, it would be cool to ask them if you had more time who they would like to work with they haven’t yet. Like you can ask an actor which director or a director which actor. I think that would be interesting to know since so many of these projects are packaged by agencies and studios.

  3. This is a very good surprise, I had a great time watching it today (in Paris). My favorite of the trilogy, yeah !
