In obvious Batman 3 news, director Christopher Nolan is apparently meeting with actresses this week in order to find his female lead for the upcoming Batman film.  As we reported just a couple of weeks ago, Nolan has already set his Inception star Tom Hardy to join the next Bat-flick, and now casting for the film seems to be moving right along. Moviehole reports that several young actresses (late 20’s to early 30’s) will be visiting Warner Bros. this week to meet with Nolan and producers.  Security is so tight on the film that many of the leading ladies don’t know what role they’ll be reading for.  So yes, that means we don’t know either, but that shouldn’t stop us from the joy of speculating.  For more, including what we know so far about Batman 3, hit the jump.

Since Maggie Gyllenhaal was dispatched in The Dark Knight, the franchise is left without a leading female role.  However, don’t be so quick to jump to the conclusion that Nolan is casting another romantic foil for Bruce Wayne.  Currently, we have no idea who the villain of the next flick will be, so it’s possible that Nolan is casting Wayne’s antagonist for the film. Will the villain be Catwoman? What about Harley Quinn?  Or Talia al Ghul?  The Batman universe has a strong cadre of female characters.

What we do know at this point is that Nolan is definitely back as director working from a script written by himself and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, and the film is set for a July 20, 2012 release date.  Michael Caine previously said that filming would “probably start in May” of next year.  Nolan has also stated that they had found a nice way to round out the trilogy and to bring the story he began in Batman Begins to a close, so it’s presumed that this will be his last foray into the Batman legacy.

So what about you, Bat-fans? What role do you think Nolan’s casting for and who do you think would be the best choice?

  1. Here is my best guess regarding which actress’ are meeting with Nolan regarding the coveted role of Catwoman based on Clints’ report on an unknown possibly being considered and the age range Nolan may be looking at. This list below is in no particular order:

    Olivia Wilde
    Eva Green
    Noomi Rapace
    Emily Blunt

Also, lets notice what these beautiful gals have in common…..they ALL have mesmerizing EYES! CATWOMAN EYES!

I hope Cotillard is not out of the running yet also….but it seems like she may be out.

  2. I think it will be Talia al Ghul. Thats just a good choice to round out the movies for a close, it will bring it full circle. I still think that Hardy will be the Riddler who is brought in as a F.B.I. type to catch Batman. However he will have his own agenda that being “I hope” that he gets Harvey out of Arkham to help destroy Batman. I feel they need to bring Harvey back otherwise it wont be finished. He needs to be held accountable for the lives he took and to clear Batman’s name. Otherwise Batman could save a million people, but he still would be held responsible for the six dead cops. So Harvey no question Harley could be brought in, but not in the villian aspect. Harley would be only the doctor she was before Joker corrupted her. She could be working with Batman and Gordon on keeping Havey’s secret.

      • He was never confirmed as being dead. Pay attention before you attempt correct people. They gave Harvey Dent a memorial without a casket present at the end, & the script itself says that his coin lands “face-up” rather face-down with the scarred up part of the coin. Harvey Dent is very much alive but they had to cover up for the crimes he committed. Batman is now a villain, and Harvey is “presumed” dead.

      • Nolan’s shooting script, which was published, confirms that he was dead. That’s not to say they’d change their mind, but as written, Harvey was dead.

      • I’m pretty sure that Nolan came out after the release of Dark Knight and said that Harvey in fact died.

      • Actually, in the movie novelization for The Dark Knight, it states that Harvey is dead. Nolan and Caine even said so in an interview.

    • I dont think he is dead, even if Nolan says so. Think about it then batman goes down as a murderer regardless of what good he does. Yeah it may not go that route but you never know. Plus Alex there is no need to talk like I have no idea what Im talking about. There was no coffin at the memorial for one. Two why didnt Batman die in that fall as well? Just cause someones eye is closed doesnt make them dead.

      • Well Gordon knows that Batman didn’t kill those people and so would officer Ramirez so i guess if they HAD to clear Batman’s name, which i don’t think they do, then one of them could reveal that to the public. Not sure how many would believe them though. Also, I wish they hadn’t short changed two face the way they did. He felt tacked on. He should have gone full two face in the third film and became the main villain but oh well. I think it would be a real mistake to bring back two face after the ending of the dark knight and I don’t think Nolan’s fool enough to do something so cliche.

  3. I know it’s just way too much to hope for, but I would love to see Harley live action just once. If she was played right, she could be creepy as all hell and the performance right up there with Ledger’s Joker (again, IF played correctly).
I am sure they will move away from Joker and his associated crew, thus no Harley. But it’s nice to dream.

About the only way she’d be in the next is if she is the “opener” and Bats takes her down in the first few minutes as a ‘wrap up’ of the Joker’s gang. I really don’t see her taking the Lead Big Bad this soon. =/

  4. It has to be for Silver St. Cloud. Catwoman has already been done in Batman Returns and Talia Al Ghul would be a retread of Batman Begins. Silver St. Cloud is the one true love interest that can best fit with Bruce Wayne in a relationship and end the Batman film trilogy.

  5. It’s a shame Noomi Rapace blew up before she got a chance to be cast in Batman 3. I think she would be perfect for either a villain or love interest. With her presumably not a possibality due to upcoming films I’ll go with either Emily Blunt or Marion Cotillard.

  7. For those of you saying Catwoman should not be in this film. Why not?

There has never been an IDEAL interpretation of Selina/Catwoman seen onscreen before.

Please don’t try and say Micheles Pfeifers in the early 90′s was an ideal version, because it sure as HECK was not!

  8. Nice Adam –

I kind of liked Empire’s story suggestion from way back in the day that would include the Riddle teaming up with with police to uncover Batman’s true identity. I always liked the Riddler as a villain and while he would resemble the Joker in many ways, his would be vastly more intellectual and not as focused on morals and such. Here’s hoping!

    • Thanks!

Agreed. I pray that those Joseph Gordon-Levitt rumors turn out to be true. I’m a huge JGL fan and I could see him tearing up the Riddler role, especially in Nolan’s universe.

  9. Catwoman this, Talia Al-Ghul that, but people will be surprise when Harley Quinn terrorize gotham in the next film

  10. I really doubt we’ll be seeing Joseph Gordon Levitt in this one considering Tom Hardy is already cast. One person from the last movie’s fine. He’s not Tim Burton.

  11. Cotillard will be great; my second choice is for Green. But c’mon Noomi rapacace no! even if she’s a great actress she’s ugly to watch

  12. Cotillard will be great; my second choice is for Green. But c’mon Noomi rapacace no! even if she’s a great actress she’s ugly to watch

  13. Noomi Rapace would be a great choice for Talia al Ghul or even Catwoman. She deserves a breakout rôle in a English speaking blockbuster level flick. Her work as Lisbeth Salander in the Stieg Larsson Millenium Trilogy was above & beyond.

  14. HE SHOULD BRING BACK VIKKI VALES CHARACTER BUT THIS TIME AS GOTHAMS NEW D.A. THAT WOULD ROCK BRUCE,S WORLD AS WELL AS SERVE AS A GREAT SUB PLOT.
