Rocksteady, the company behind this year’s highly anticipated sequel Batman: Arkham City, has revealed that Catwoman will be a playable character within the single player campaign.  In Batman: Arkham Asylum, PlayStation 3 owners could play as the Joker, but only inside the challenge rooms.  In Arkham City, Batman defends, but Catwoman has the freedom to slink in the shadows and she also has her own set of combat moves and gadgetry.

The new trailer showcases some of her moves (Catwoman at least has the courtesy to give a kiss before executing a bodyslam), and while the voice acting seems a bit hit and miss and the trailer itself could stand to linger a little less on her ass, I’m still happy that Catwoman will get to be a playable character.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer and an interview with Rocksteady’s Dax Ginn about Catwoman’s role in the game.  Batman: Arkham City will be released on October 18th.

Catwoman looks like Angelina Jolie in ‘Hackers’.

I love this more practical approach to the Catwoman outfit. The previous skintight leather version looked ridiculous in my opinion. I can only hope that they go with this look in the Dark Knight Rises.

not a big fan of games that lead you path you can’t stray from … Batman Arkham Asylum felt like a 2002 game with good graphics.

You couldn’t change the story, but there was plenty to do outside the main narrative. You could hunt down character profiles, words from Amadeus Arkham, and solve the Riddler’s puzzles. I don’t mind if I can’t stray from the main narrative is that narrative is strong and well paced and Arkham Asylum offered exactly that.

Me neither, but I *looooooved* the latest Castlevania, which is about as 2002+2011 graphics as it gets. Did you check that out? Awesome ending.
