First Screenshots from BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS

     April 9, 2013

New images were revealed today for the video game Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel follow-up to the highly successful Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The prequel takes place in an open world Gotham City environment, where 8 of the world’s deadliest assassins gather in Gotham on Christmas Eve under the direction of the Black Mask in a plot to kill Batman.  There have been some important changes made in the direction and studio for the game, however.  Warner Bros. Games Montreal will be taking the helm for Origins, instead of Rocksteady Studios.  Likewise, Eric Holmes, lead designer of the world action hit The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, will be directing, instead of Sefton Hill, who successfully helmed the previous Arkham games.  The question is, will Holmes be able to follow up Hills’s games, which won a great deal of accolades, including Game of the Year for Batman: Arkham City? Time will tell.

Hit the jump to check out some screenshots from the game.  Available on Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Batman: Arkham Origins will be released on October 25th, 2013.

Deathstroke is in the fuckin building! Can’t wait for this game to come out!

Wonderin’ if they’ll get Manu Bennett to voice him. That would be kinda cool, I think he’s doing a good job on Arrow (despite being decidedly younger than the character in the comics).

Love this series but I wish they would tone down Batman’s muscle mass a bit.

  • Cyclops

Loved Arkham Asylum, but wasnt as big of a fan of Arkham City for some reason.

the style looks a little different. it looks a little more… cartoony? Black Mask doesn’t quite look the same, and Batman’s costume definitely looks different. i loved Arkham Asylum and Arkham City is one of my favorite games of all time, so i hope this one is just as good!

I’m a bit wary of the decision to change up the people behind the games. Rocksteady was producing some great gameplay, perhaps the best superhero-based game ever. If it ain’t broke, don’t “fix” it Warner Brothers. Here’s hoping the change of hands doesn’t negatively affect the Arkham series.

From what I read on IGN, they’re still using the same game engine developed by Rocksteady, so hopefully it won’t be too different. Since this is a younger Batman, though, I’m hoping they retain Conroy as the voice. After all, Mark Hamill is leaving the Joker behind, they may want to make a clean break with this game. I hope not and it’s a good sign that Conroy voices Batman in the “Injustice” game.

That never really bothered me…. it happens quite a bit, and the new studios tend to have alot of the original resources and coding to work with (such as Rocksteady’s Unreal-tweaked game engine as Jesus says) that there isn’t much of a difference. See for example: Fallout New Vegas, Dead Rising 2, the God of War/Uncharted portable games, etc. Really, I think the only concern is that you will have a game that plays it too safe… Rocksteady is most likely working on the “true” sequel, so this will probably be “more Arkham City”, which isn’t a bad thing in my opinion, so long as they can give us a story that doesn’t bounce all over the place.

I’m really excited for the origin story. Although, I hope it takes the Batman begins approach to some extent as far as how far they go back. I wanna see a Batman that doesn’t have his stuff together and is still bery “green.” Also, I certainly hope they don’t limit Arkham Origins to just the current gen systems. Finally, if Rocksteady isn’t developing this, then what are they working on!?

  • Mike

So what happened to that Batman game that was supposedly going to feature a bunch of other DC heroes? Not that I necessarily liked the idea of The Flash or GL showing up in Gotham and being playable. I hope this is still an awesome game. not sure why it needs to be a “prequel” though.

It might be to give Rocksteady time to work on a sequel to Arkham City. Something similar was done for Bioshock. 1 and 3 were Irrational, 2 was 2K Marin. Although in the case of Bioshock, many felt the second one was lacking in scope and ambition, so there is always a risk when moving to another creative team just to get games into stores more quickly.

I am so psyched for this game I played BAA 12 times and I played BAC 18 times its my favorite game but I was looking forward to the big Catastrophe that Azrael predicted in BAC but as long as they do that in the future than I’m fine with a Prequel can’t wait :D:D:D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bruce Wayne

I am praying so bad for this game to turn out good. I am a big fan of both A.Asylum and A.City. Both were so dark and had such depth as a game to them. I just wish this does not turn out to be a shallow experience.

But on a positive note; This IS a Batman game; The map is twice as big as previous game; We finally play into Gotham City; There will be a variety of action because of the 8 super Assassins; and Batwings!!

I only hope that since it is “snowing”, walking on the roads do not become a pain and forces the player to only use flying as a means of commute. I would definitely like to enjoy the street view of Gotham please.
