With New York City Toy Fair starting in less than two weeks, the movie studios are starting to announce what will be on display at the convention.  If you’re a toy collector, it’s Christmas, because you get to see almost everything that will be arriving over the course of the year.  And for movie fans, it’s also great, as you get first looks at the costumes and gadgets that have been under wraps during the entire production.  While the studios are usually great at keeping everything under wraps, Toy Fair offers the fans a lot of answers.

Anyway, Warner Bros. Consumer Products just sent over a number of images of some of their Hobbit and Dark Knight Rises items that will be on display.  While we posted some of the items last night, we’ve now got high resolution looks at the Funko line of Wacky Wobler’s and Pop Heroes, and we’ve also got a Dark Knight Chess Set, Thinkway Toys U-Command Batpod, and The Noble Collection’s The One Ring 10k Solid Gold Edition.  Hit the jump for the images.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

With the first Hobbit movie arriving later this year, I’d expect a lot more merchandise to be announced very soon.  But for now, here’s the Noble Collection’s The One Ring 10k Solid Gold Edition.  No word on price.  I’ve also included the official synopsis for the first film.  The second Hobbit film arrives December 2013.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, productions of New Line Cinema and MGM, follow the journey of Bilbo Baggins, who is unexpectedly swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of 13 dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

While Warner Bros. has yet to release any toy images of Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel, I’d imagine at this year’s Comic-Con we’re going to be able to check out a lot of cool stuff.  Until then, here’s the official synopsis:

Man of Steel premieres in U.S. theaters June 14, 2013 from visionary filmmakers Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder. The film will be a major tentpole theatrical film with studio-wide support Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, he struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. Clark must become the hero known as Superman, not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but also to protect the ones he loves. The film stars Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent with Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Antje Traue as Faora.

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises premieres in U.S. theaters July 20, 2012. It is the final chapter in the Batman theatrical trilogy from award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan. The film stars Christian Bale reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/ Batman. New cast includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/ Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. The Dark Knight Rises will be a major tentpole theatrical release with studio-wide marketing support including a multi-million dollar advertising campaign and robust consumer products merchandising across all categories of business.

i don’t get why they insist on making articles about the toys, no one gives a shit about the new toys they released. It doesn’t give any insight to the movie, so quit doing crap like this and then making it one of the top articles like people actually care.

    • Steve Rudzinski

Some of us are toy collectors and seeing the toys coming out is really cool and more interesting than news on the movie we don’t want spoiled anyway.

Nothing in this article is very interesting but don’t knock toys.

i, in fact, “give a shit” about this kind of stuff, so yeah, theres a flaw in your argument. on a similar note, i really, really, really want that Bane vinyl figure, its a great way to make a murderous bastard look so damn cute.

  • Lizard King

Yeah, I think the Bane vinyl figure is pretty much the cutest toy I’ve ever seen in my life.

Add me as someone who gives a shit about these toy tie-ins. Not because I want to buy them, but because they can reveal spoilers about the movie in question, and they can give you a sense of the overall marketing push behind a genre movie.

For example, did you guys know that the Real Steel toy line did extremely well among little boys, selling out in most retail outlets? That movie may not have done as well as expected at the box office, but its toy line hit the movie’s target demographic, which will probably help the production soon become a financial success for its studio.
