While the LA Kings were establishing their rule over the ice last night, Jason Momoa was staking his claim as king of the seas. A confident new report pegs the former Game of Thrones star as playing Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with a larger role likely in the superhero team-up movie, Justice League. It sounds like Snyder’s design for the character is already set, so even though we haven’t heard any official confirmation yet, Momoa is expected to play the part. There’s also a hint of some plot elements for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that would be in direct response to the destructive events that took place in Man of Steel. Hit the jump for more.
[Update: THR has corroborated HitFix's report, citing their own sources as saying Momoa will indeed be playing Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We'll let you know when we get official word from Warner Bros.]
HitFix assertively reports that Momoa will be playing Aquaman (though not necessarily by that exact name) in Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The write-up also delves into the presumed plot of the film, which is thought to have Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) turning the populace of Metropolis against the last son of Krypton because of the widespread destruction he inadvertently caused. In addition to the land-dwelling folks not being too happy with Superman, it’s proposed that Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, is equally displeased with the havoc caused by Zod’s World Engine poised over the Indian Ocean. That being said, Aquaman (and Momoa) is expected to have a smaller role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which sets him up for a bigger part in Justice League.
I’ll still take this news with a grain of salt since Momoa’s been rumored for everything from the villainous Doomsday to the heroic Martian Manhunter. While it certainly looks like he’ll be appearing in Snyder’s film, we’ll have to wait for more official confirmation before we bestow the crown of the sea king upon him. If it’s true, we’ll likely be seeing a lot more of him due to WB’s ambitious, yet unconfirmed, movie schedule. Let us know your thoughts about Momoa playing Aquaman in the comments below.
