We’ve got Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Lois Lane (Amy Adams), Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Alfred (Jeremy Irons) and then some.  Certain main players may seem vital to the Batman and Superman lore, but there’s only so many key characters one film can handle so it’s no surprise that it’s being reported that Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will do away with one.

This is a MAJOR spoiler so you’ll have to hit the jump if you want to find out which very familiar character might not make it into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice [Last warning!  There’s a big Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice spoiler in this article!]

gary-oldman-james-gordonHave you noticed that the role of James Gordon was never cast for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?  According to Badass Digest, it’s because he’s already dead when the movie begins.  The outlet doesn’t mention how he died or why, but notes, “James Gordon has, at some point in the past, bitten the dust.”  The outlet claims that in Batman v Superman “Batman has been operating in Gotham for 17 years,” so it’s very likely that he’s seen a lot of death during the lengthy career.

Of course these details haven’t been confirmed by DC and Warner Bros., but the adjustment does make sense.  First off, thanks to Gotham, I’ve had enough of James Gordon anyway, and as for how his demise could impact the narrative in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice itself, Badass notes that drafts of the script done prior to Chris Terrio signing on involved The Joker killing Robin.  However, more recent drafts don’t, so perhaps now The Joker kills Gordon instead.

I also like IGN’s theory.  There’s been a lot of talk of Jena Malone stepping in as Carrie “Robin” Kelley, but perhaps she’s really Barbara Gordon, Jim Gordon’s daughter.  The outlet points out that Barbara Gordon becomes the new GCPD Commissioner in Batman #666 and the Batman Beyond animated series, so that route seems like a viable option.

What do you think?  How could Jim Gordon’s death affect what’s coming in Batman v Superman?
