Rumor: Doomsday One of the Five Villains in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

It’s getting hard to keep up with all of the villains (and heroes) rumored to be participating in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  Heck, it’s hard enough keeping up with the rumors about who wrote which version of a fake script that all of this info may or may not be coming from.  And now there are fresh rumors that Doomsday will be making an appearance in the film, perhaps as one of the five villains people claim are on tap for this franchise installment.

Hit the jump for more on the possible Batman v Superman Doomsday appearance.  The film stars Ben Affleck, Henry CavillGal GadotJesse EisenbergAmy AdamsLaurence FishburneJason MomoaHolly HunterCallan Mulvey, Tao OkamotoScoot McNairy, Diane Lane, and Jeremy Irons.  Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.

death-of-superman-doomsdayBleeding Cool is reporting that some of their most reliable sources have seen Doomsday designs for Batman v Superman.  You’ll remember that Doomsday “killed” Superman in The Death of Superman.  Keep in mind this is still in the rumor column, but maybe this is where we get some context for those leaked set photos showing mourners carrying flowers to the altar of Superman built in Metropolis?

In any case, this movie seems absolutely overstuffed.  Man of Steel felt overstuffed and confused to me (remember Russell Crowe’s dragons) and that had a fraction of the characters we’re seeing here.  I don’t want to be a downer on this film, and I could easily be wrong, but it seems like WB is just throwing as many characters into the mix as possible hoping for another Avengers.  Of course, the problem with this, as many have said before, is that there’s no context for any of them.  They haven’t had their own films to introduce them yet, so I’m concerned shoehorning all of them into this one picture will involve contrivance of epic proportions.

What do you think?

I think they may be blowing their load too soon, so to speak!

Only 5 villains? Oh come on, shoot for 20 or 40 at least guys.

And they don’t even have to be from DC. Throw in Doctor Claw from Inspector Gadget while we’re at it.

This Could be what makes Jesse Eisenberg lose his hair.

At least it’s a natural explanation

  • Nathaniel Haywood

If this is true, then they could be going for a variant of the Death of Superman storyline: Bats and Super are at odds until The villains show up, Super is overpowered and “dies” stopping get Doomsday, heroes rise up to fill his place like Wonder Woman and Aquaman, and then he returns for the final confrontation. Probably not likely, but possible.

    • Batt Damon

Pretty much but without the returns part. They’ll be saving that for Justice League.

  • Guest

Seriously they should’ve just called this movie Everyone v Everyone

    • Delahunte

Or maybe even “F*ck It: Everyone v Everyone…You’re Gonna Pay To See This Anyways”

      • BatemanBegins

I so wish that weren’t true.

  • Pernell Whitaker

This is sounding worse by the rumour. Hopefully they are just rumours. Not got a good feeling about this movie though. Could be a critical bomb of epic proportions – it’ll do well at the box office whatever unfortunately.

    • Cody McGowan

I’m still waiting on Zack Snyder to reveal that MOS and the ensuing franchises are just an elaborate prank pulled on the world. I live in hope that one day, thirty years from now, someone will make a biopic about him and it will turn out he is simply the greatest conceptual comedian of all time. He’ll make Andy Kaufman look like a chump.

    • Mezmero

Dude you sound like a cry baby this is rumor the movie will only have three of the main JL. Batman,Superman and Wonder Women. You know nothing else but media hype. Trust me I’m from Cleveland I know all about media hype it gets ratings and bloggers talking.

      • mattritchey

“Trust me I’m from Cleveland.” Brilliant.

      • Pernell Whitaker

Lol, not sure I sound that much like a cry baby, more like a casual observer… Also, Jason Momoa is playing Aquaman, so your point is invalid anyway. Cleveland sounds nice, good place to visit? If LeBron returns I might visit to watch a couple Cavs games sometime.

  • Cody McGowan

The best part of all of the rumors about this movie is that, whether you loved MOS or hated it, there’s a sense that any or all of them could be true. That’s why this BvS is such a joke already. Nothing can live up to this hype.

  • Person

Part of me hopes this is all a deliberate mis-information campaign to throw everybody off. If it is, they’ve outdone JJ Abrams. If it isn’t, God help the DC Cinematic Universe…

    • BatemanBegins

If that’s the case, here’s for hoping it’s the first small-scale super hero blockbuster, with stunning black and white cinematography, and an a hour-long discussion between Supes and Batfleck about the ethical ramifications of the millions of deaths in M.O.S.

  • DEADP00L

Hey guys it’s DEADP00L, can’t seem to log into disqu on here, anybody else getting this?

Matt may have banned you. That happens sometimes.

  • DEADP00L

You know at this point I think we’re just being trolled by WB and DC because this is just insane.

  • http://www.collider.com/ DNAsplitter

Yea I’m not buying this. All we’ve heard lately is rumors without actual confirmation. This movie has the biggest hype train I’ve ever seen. It’s crazy how much talk there is about this over The Avengers AOU and that is less than a year away.

    • DEADP00L

For once I am actually agreeing with you.

    • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

I think it’s because there’s less anxiety over the potential quality of A2:AOU. The first one proved it worked, whereas MOS was a hate it or love it entry (aka not a great way to start a franchise) hence people being understandably concerned that the follow-up could be just as bad or worse.

      • Bring it!

OH REALLY?It’s not because there is BATS & SUPES on the same movie and that the Avengers are lame.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

        Yup, really.

    • The Walking Cuban

Way too early for Doomsday, particularly if the whatchamacallit is true, the roadmap? Of course that may be false too. Ah phooey

    • Guest

Everyone knows avengers is just a Justice League Knockoff. People want the original. Add that to the fact that Avengers was the most overrated movie of 2012, just a notch above Dark Knight Rises and you have your reasons why it’s being talked about more than AOU.

      You’re Welcome

  • gar216

Doomsday could work as a recurring thorn in Superman’s side. Everytime Superman kills him, he comes back stronger. I could also see this being tweaked as something the Government creates using Kryptonian DNA from MoS. Then they realized they realize that they went too far and need Superman to fix their mistake. I don’t really consider many of the other villains that have been announced to be worthy of Batman and Superman’s combined attention. Hopefully Doomsday is to this movie what the Joker was to the Dark Knight. Leaving Luthor to be the Harvey Dent character….Bring on the hate filled comments.

    • Kyle Chandler

I think there is a bigger chance that doomsday is this movie’s bane from “Batman and Robin”. A lackey or an attack dog, maybe sent by a luthor.

      • gar216

You also just described Bane from TDKR. Sadly.

      • Kyle Chandler

        Sigh.

  • DEADP00L

YES! got it working again pHEW.

  • agent777

If they are using Batman, then they should use some of Batman’s villain, as they are already familiar to audiences. Doomsday only works if he is used in the Doomsday storyline. Out of that context I see him having a harder time than even Venom or Bane.

  • Adam Collins

Maybe they are planning on having a series of shorts introducing every character on a Special Edition re-release of MOS. Or, maybe they just don’t care and want to throw everything they have at this and see what sticks.

  • 80sRobot

The only major villain who has been confirmed is Lex. The others are mainly lower-tier thugs, hired goons in the DC comics universe. Doomsday could be the second major villain.

    • 80sRobot

Also keep in mind that each of the Bat-Nolan movies had 3 major villains in them.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

Each of them had 3 major villains? Not really. TDK had The Joker and Two Face (for the back quarter of the movie) – to try to call anyone else in that film a major villain is seriously pushing it. The same can be said of Batman begins which had Scarecrow and Ra’as. TDKR only had Bane and Talia. So 2 major villains, yeah.

      • http://www.collider.com/ DNAsplitter

I think he’s referring to the mob bosses in each film.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

I know, which is why I specified the characters that actually count as “major villains”. Because those mob bosses are side characters at best.

      • agent777

No. The Mob bosses 100% count. Having read the comics that Nolan took inspiration from, Falcone and Maroni are definitely notable Batman foes.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

I’ve read them too, and yeah, in the comics, they definitely count. In the movies? Not so much. They’re bit players in small supporting roles and nothing more. Their roles were almost meaningless.

      • Pernell Whitaker

        I’ve read the comics too.

    • Batt Damon

Lex is pulling the strings, Doomsday gives the trinity someone physical to fight that’s a credible threat to all three of them and an excuse for them to set aside their differences and work together. The other villains are akin to characters like Zsasz in Batman Begins, Scarecrow in TDK and TDKR and Rhino i n TASM 2 while Waller occupies a smiler capacity that she did in Green Lantern.

  • jim denton

Just remember that they are basically doing this and Justice League back to back/ simultaneously and the doomsday concept art could be for J.L. We already know some cameos and setups in Dawn won’t payoff til J.L. so whether these rumors are true or false you have to regard this in the context of two movies not 1. Doomsday could just be hinted at until his big reveal in League. So really it’s like 2.5 villains per flick.

    • bidi

      THAT… is an interesting point…

    • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

That was my first instinct as well.

    • Batt Damon

They’ll be using Darkseid for Justice League for sure.

  • Yup

DOOMSDAY is nothing but Fan-Boy Tease in the Final Seconds of ‘BvS’ if not a After Credit Scene to get you drooling for ‘Justice League’. Nothing more, nothing less.

If Thanos Conceptual Art would have leaked Prior to ‘The Avengers’. Fans would have been thinking him the villian.

But alas, he had 4.8 seconds of Screentime and even that needs Conceptual Artwork done.

    • Luciano Jose Marin

      I Think You´re Right

  • http://www.thereeljames.wordpress.com James Garcia

“Too many characters” and “overstuffed” are arguments you can make AFTER the movie comes out. As of right now we know absolutely nothing about it and have very few official confirmations about these appearances. Movies like The Winter Soldier and Days of Future Past have shown us that multiple characters and villains CAN work, if they’re balanced correctly. So stop complaining about how many characters are in a film. Because that is NOT a death sentence in and of itself.

    • MJ

That did not work well at all in DOFP.

  • Dmula

I’m glad they’re not copying marvel and I doubt this is true.I could see either each character briefly fighting a nemesis or Luther being behind a super villain but not 5.Btw though is anybody else feeling like A2 might be heading the overstuffed route also?

    • RiddleThemThis

Are the guardians part of avengers 2?

  • bait n switch

Well i’ll tell ya now if it’s true then Jason Mamoa isn’t Aquaman…he’s Doomsday. That would be the stupidest thing ever if they have him play Vincent Chase when he’d fit sooo well as Doomsday. I could see Doomsday being all mo-cap too, he might want to be seen. But how do you pass up being the guy who kills Superman?

  • http://www.104bits.com Luis Humberto 104Bits.com

Actually, Guardians have five main characters, plus the Novas, four villains, and a rumored Thanos givin’ orders via holographic presence. None of this characters have previous introduction (except Thanos). Any complains? Personally i don’t give a f**k about the “over crowded” complain because when the movie came out maybe most of this gonna be cameos or references… Plus, people like bitchin everything about DC-CU but like the same things on Marvel, just because is Marvel…

    • Mezmero

      Thank You ^^

    • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

Comparison doesn’t really work. The (rumored) main characters in BvS/JL are all main characters of their own franchises who join together, whereas in GotG, the team is the franchise not the individual team members. The villains are being introduced in GotG, and only one of them Ronan is really the big bad, with Nova just being an enforcer. By contrast, BvS will have Lex and Doomsday if not also someone Lex has created/hired to fight for him. So, yeah, there’s a reason people aren’t complaining about GotG for the same reasons as BvS.

      • http://www.104bits.com Luis Humberto 104Bits.com

I don’t understand the complains just because all are based on rumors of a movie we didn’t see, maybe Doomsday it’s just a cameo, and even if not, we don’t know yet how the combination Lex/Doomsday gonna works. Maybe Guardians end up being a disappoint or the best action movie of the year, we don’t know but i don’t read about people complain. And for the record Thanos is a really big bad guy who deserves at least his own movie before Avengers 3, but i just won’t complain about that.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

I think by the time we see Thanos as a full-time villain in A3, he’ll have had a decent intro, and even if not – half of what makes a great superhero movie is time spent exploring the villain, which there will be plenty of time for as we’ll have seen the Avengers in 2 films already. And yeah, GotG may suck and all of this BvS stuff might just be a rumor, but the reasons I stated above are the reason no one’s all that worried about GotG (that and Marvel’s pretty solid track record thus far). MoS on the other hand, made a lot of (vocal) fans upset and so they analyze every bit of BvS news hoping it’ll sound better than its predecessor – but so far that hasn’t happened.

      • Underground Anthem TX

Lex– The Collector and Thanos are also in GOTG in a villain capacity, so that’s 3 villains. BvS:DOJ’s (dang these movies are getting tough to abbreviate lol) has one confirmed villain. Nothing else has been confirmed amidst rampant (and often incorrect) speculation.

For example, why are you assuming someone will fight for Luthor instead of him donning his famous power armor? See what I mean?

I’m sure there will be things to legitimately criticize about this movie once we have a confirmed plot synopsis and requisite trailer, but until then all the criticism about this movie comes across as fanboy sniping, to me.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

Yes, Thanos and The Collector are in GotG, but Thanos only as a dark ominous presence removed from the action and The Collector as more of a nuisance in the same way the mob bosses were in the Nolan Batman films. So yes, they’re villains in GotG but they’re in a supporting role, at most.

As for BvS, yes, it’s true that no one besides Lex has actually been confirmed as an actual villain character, though there has been casting news that have named three or four other actors as “villains” in the movie from WB itself. So, yes, maybe they will all be minor players, but we know there has to be some superpowered villain at some point – otherwise A) it’s a very tame Superman movie and B) it’s basically a rehash of Superman: The Movie and Superman Returns – which I don’t think anyone really wants. I also doubt they’ll have Lex put on his super suit straight off the bat – that requires him to be in full-swing villainy. It’s not impossible, but it’s shoving all of Luthor’s character arc into one movie which is a waste.

      • Cody McGowan

“I also doubt they’ll have Lex put on his super suit straight off the bat.” Sure, that’ll be 20 minutes in.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

Okay, in a world where people with a concept of character development are writing these movies, I doubt they’d have Lex put on his super suit straight off. How depressing is it that that disclaimer is necessary?

      • Cody McGowan

Are you saying the Snyderverse isn’t the best of all possible worlds?

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

I would never say that ::while nodding yes violently::

      • Underground Anthem TX

Even though we have absolutely no idea at this point, let’s assume there are going to be additional villains in BvS:DOJ beyond Luthor. How do you know it won’t be in the same “dark, ominous presence” or “removed from the action” capacity as GOTG’s villains (which we technically know nothing of, either)? This is the type of thing where it’s obvious Marvel movies get the benefit of the doubt, where DC does not (rightly or wrongly).

If there are indeed no more villains, I don’t see why it would then be classified as a “tame Superman movie” when he is fighting (at least for some portion of the movie) freaking BATMAN, but to each his own.

As an aside, your comments are actually very measured in comparison with many online and I appreciate your civility when discussing it, because something about this topic makes certain folks lose all manner of sanity.

  • Snarky

One thing that I’d like to know that wasn’t mentioned… how did Doomsday look in the concept art??

I got the impression that riding a dragon was an example of “confused”.

You may be right but I still don’t get it. Krypton is an alien world. Jor-el had a flying space horse. Unexpected mode of transport for some viewers I guess, but I don’t see how it’s confusing. Now, his plan re. the codex… that was confusing.

I don’t think the villains are going to have massive screen time. I assume that at best they’ll probably be tiny pieces to the plot of BvS (with the exception of course of Doomsday. If he really is a villain in this movie then we may see more of him). And as far as the heroes go (i.e. Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg etcc) X-men DOFP proved that characters can show up with minimal screen time and still entertain the hell out of us e.g. Quicksilver – He’ll have a bigger part in Apocalypse, enough I presume to really flesh out the character. I’m sure that’s what they’re doing here with BvS. It is just an introduction or a placement for them in the universe.

Just another thing for people to bitch about “There’s too many characters”. Watch the movie, then bitch about it.

Here, I’ll give you some more gripes before you watch the movie:

    “The characters were underserved.”
“Superman doesn’t have any red underwear.”
“Wonder Woman’s tits weren’t big enough.”
    “Not enough black people.”
    “Too many black people.”
    “Where is Hitler?”
    “Batman promotes Rape Culture.”
“Jesse Eisenberg gives the same performance in everything he does.”
“No lesbian scene between Lois and Wonder Woman.”
“Ben Affleck.” (Because you can never stop bitching about it.)
“Where was this obscure DC Character that only a handful of people care about but we have to point out to show how hardcore DC we are.”
    “Doomsday? more like DoomsGay.”

I would like to hear Kevin Smiths true opinion on the movie, but we will not get it unless he has a falling out with Ben Affleck. Which will happen at some point because getting in fights with people is kinda his thing now. “I’m from jersey.”

All of the present and future critics of Batman V. Superman on this page and around the world will ALL fail come May 2016. Batman V. Superman WILL get a rating of between 85% to 90% overall on Rotten Tomatoes and all movie reviewers will agree that this movie will have transcended the DC Universe and the Superhero movie genre going forward for a very long time. This movie is getting major exposure 2 years earlier because of the unprecedented belief by Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder that this movie will be incredibly and insanely great, and this much exposure on most films this early is extremely rare – this is no coincidence. This movie will succeed on many unbelievable levels, because a movie EXACTLY like this has never been made before. I look forward to this major motion picture experience in 2016 as so I hope all of you do too.

  • Chad

They don’t need their own individual films first. Just because marvel did it that way doesn’t mean it can’t work another way. That kind of thinking — and journalism — is ridiculous. I guess The Joker and Bane needed their own films before showing up in Nolan’s films? They weren’t really given origins, so they must not work, according to this logic.

  • Delano

Isn’t Diane Lane in this? Returning as Martha from Man of Steel??????

This is a movie that I really, really, really, want to like, but have reservations on
