We’re almost there, folks. In less than two weeks, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be available for mass consumption, and years of speculation, outrage, and hype will culminate in director Zack Snyder’s full superhero epic finally hitting theaters. With the film’s release now so close, Warner Bros. has officially released a bevy of high-resolution Batman v Superman images that further reveal what’s in store for audiences. Some of these photos we’ve seen before in lower resolution or watermarked form, while others are brand new. All of them, however, highlight Snyder’s visual palette, and I myself am mighty curious to see what kind of visual tone Snyder and cinematography Larry Fong have carved out to bring two of the biggest superheroes of all time together onscreen in the same movie.
As you well know, the film takes place after the events of Man of Steel and finds Ben Affleck’s Batman taking particular interest in the arrival of Superman. Spurned by the collateral damage from Superman’s smackdown with Zod in the crowded city of Metropolis, Batman aims to put this alien in his place and protect humanity from this potentially world-ending threat. But there are other machinations at work by way of Jesse Eisenberg’s devious tech-billionaire Lex Luthor, who may or may not be pulling the strings at the top.
These images assure us that the supporting players from Man of Steel—namely Amy Adams’ Lois Lane, Diane Lane’s Martha Kent, and Laurence Fishburne’s Perry White—have not been forgotten, and remind us that there are other folks besides the titular heroes in this movie, like Holly Hunter’s Senator Finch and of course Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. I remain incredibly fascinated to see what all of this adds up to, and I look forward to finally catching the film next week.
