BATMAN V SUPERMAN: Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL Compose New Music for Trailer

Hold on to your butts. We confirmed last week that the very first Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer will be playing in front of Mad Max: Fury Road in theaters across the globe, and if that wasn’t enough to be excited about, let’s throw in a first-listen to the film’s score while we’re at it. Many times when a debut trailer is released, the film’s composer hasn’t had a chance to nail down the cues and themes just yet, so temp music is used instead. This is often why you’ll hear the same music (The Thin Red Line, anyone?) in multiple trailers.

But for Batman v Superman, which completed shooting last year, music is being created specifically for the trailer by none other than Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL. Zimmer scored Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, but when it came time to decide whether he’d return for Batman v Superman he faced a conundrum. Given his history with the Batman franchise and Christopher Nolan, Zimmer didn’t want to try and “compete” with those films by composing a new Batman theme. But he came up with a fix: Junkie XL.

Zimmer enlisted his friend and collaborator to join him on Batman v Superman, handing all of the Batman scoring duties over to Junkie XL. The latter composer revealed on Twitter recently that he and Zimmer wrote original music for the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer, meaning we’ll get our first preview of the film’s score in a little over a month’s time. The placement of the BvS trailer on Mad Max: Fury Road is actually a bit fortuitous as well, as Junkie XL composed the score for Fury Road.

So check out some of Junkie XL’s tweets below and sit tight knowing that the Batman v Superman trailer won’t only be a teaser for the eyes, but also the ears. The film is slated for release on March 25, 2016.
