BATMAN V SUPERMAN Rumored to Have Four Villains in Addition to Lex Luthor

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice already feels crowded.  What could have been a straight sequel to Man of Steel that focused solely on Superman (Henry Cavill) and pushed past his origin story now includes heroes Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) as well as Supes’ requisite arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), and Bats’ requisite butler Alfred (Jeremy Irons). There are also returning characters (Lois Lane, Perry White, Ma Kent) plus unnamed characters played by Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto, and Scoot McNairy.  Now there’s word of four new characters joining the party.

Hit the jump for more on possible Batman v Superman villains, and click here for the first official shot from the sequel of Cavill as Superman.  Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens May 6, 2016, and also stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane[Possible spoilers ahead.]

According to Latino Review, a collection of secondary villains could be in the mix for Batman v Superman.  First up there’s Victor Zsazs, a serial killer who has scarred up his body to count his many kills.  He’s pretty gross, but he’s on the low-end of the spectrum when it comes to a bad guy that can truly challenge Batman.  Based on his build in the comics, he could be a good fit for Mulvey or McNairy.

Moving on, Lex Luthor’s mouthpiece Morgan Edge is supposedly in the movie.  “We meet Edge early on when he goes toe to toe with Lois Lane in a television talk show,” reports Latino Review.  LR also speculates that this role would go to McNairy, and that’s not much of a stretch either, although I think it would be more fun to see McNairy as Zsazs.

Then there’s David Cain, an assassin in his 50s “who meets with Luthor’s bodyguard Mercy Graves to set up an assassination.”  Mulvey has the grizzled look of someone who could fit Cain’s description, so that wouldn’t be much of a surprise if that’s where the 300: Rise of an Empire actor lands.

It’s also important to keep in mind that nothing prevents the movie from announcing new pieces of casting, and if this next addition is to be believed, they’ll almost certainly have to.

The heaviest hitter among the rumored new characters is Amanda Waller.  Waller, who is African-American, is an important character in the comics.  LR says Waller is a senator in the movie, she considers Superman a serious threat, “and comes up with a counter measure” that Latino Review won’t spoil.  It’s worth noting that Waller previously showed up in Green Lantern as “Doctor Waller”.  The character was played by Angela Bassett, but I assume they’ll recast the role.  If Waller is in the movie, I would also assume she could also factor heavily into other DC movies, especially Justice League.

amanda-waller-animated

Again, these are all rumors.  If these characters do show up, I would expect all of them, with perhaps the exception of Waller, to play small roles.  However, these are more additions in a cast that already feels bloated with important characters like Wonder Woman and Aquaman who need to have screen time.  Start throwing in pieces like Waller and the picture gets even bigger.

Am I the only one who’s starting to feel uneasy about all of this?

More villains means more action and less character development.

The thing is none of these villains sound like a threat to either Batman Or zsuperman. Its just weak people with small weapons who will get an ass whooping. Not a single one of them sounds like aanything more than a meanie that will get arrested.

Although superman now kills in this world, maybe Batman uses a bazooka now.

      • Bob and Rob Piccob

        Batzooka*

      • bidi

you may be on to something. maybe Zsasz does pose a threat to Batman, which says a lot about Batman. in the grand scheme of things they’re just thugs and murderers fist fighting on rooftops. maybe the appearance of Superman shows Batman how overmatched and out of touch he is and sort of dedicates his time and resources to becoming more of Superman’s equal

      • pkh

Marvel in Iron man 3 made a hole on a man chest and after that called him son of bitch but superman broke a neck everybody went crazy about it.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

Probably because Iron Man has never been shy about killing. Ever.

      • 80sRobot

Yeah, these characters are essentially elaborate thugs. They are not *major* villains like Lex. And I’d rather that the screenplay borrow thugs from the DC comics canon than the writer making up generic bad guys (e.g. Bob the Goon), which is lazy and disrespectful toward the source materials.

not necessarily. Zsasz could literally be in one scene as a sort of intro to Batman. his character wouldn’t be developed, but we would get an introduction to this new version of Batman and how he operates. also, Edge could just be played as a smarmy asshole businessman and could be a villain more so for Clark Kent than Superman. either way, with the exception of Waller, all of these characters would probably be tiny with only one or two scenes to work with

      • Leo Spaceman

Well that was my guess, he would probably be like the Scarecrow in the Dark Knight. Prove that Batman is awesome.

      • brNdon

Or maybe it will be like Victor Zsasz in Batman Begins since that already happened, geniuses.

      • Bob and Rob Piccob

Or maybe not everyone knows who a D-Rate villain like Victor Zsasz is because they don’t read comics, and wouldn’t have recogniEd him as being in a movie that is ten years old, condescending jackass who lives in pretend world.

      • brNdon

He’s only D-Rate to tools like you who’s knowledge of the DC universe doesn’t expand beyond the Nolan trilogy. I just thought it was ridiculous to compare his appearance, which had already happened in Batman Begins, to someone else’s appearance in another film.

with these villains?oh, yeah now i can see it, amanda waller slapping superman in slow motion…

      • http://tarek-to-verso.over-blog.com/ tarek

the Amanda Waller who plays in Arrow ?

  • Mike

Move on people, it’s just another cluster fuck on the way.

    • Damien

It was already set up to fail, and I don’t mean them casting Ben Affleck as the World’s Greatest Detective, it’s the inclusion of Wonder Woman *and* Aquaman, as well as a street-punk Lex Luthor. Might as well run full steam into a brick wall.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

Wouldn’t that just allow us to see it? I mean, we throw films at walls all the time, at the speed of light I might add, and it usually doesn’t hurt them, it just makes them visible to us.

    • axalon

Four villains? That’s it? Mr. Snyder, come on. Why not shoot for the stars? How about 20 villains. 1,000 villains? This is America, be all you can be!

  • Mike

Move on people, it’s just another cluster fuck on the way.

  • Andrew J

That leads me to believe that the main plot will be about trying to assassinate a representative from a new island that has come out as an independent country. So batman and superman team up to save her but in the third act, we find out she doesn’t need that much saving after all

Amanda Waller is good news, but I have a feeling the rest of these will be a lot like Crossbones was in Capt. 2 – characters tangentially involved with the plot, who will factor bigger in movies down the road.

But this thing is getting too crowded, it’s gonna have to be a miniseries at this point.

Here comes the way too many villain complainers….My guess: These guys will all be used in maybe one or two scenes.

  • Grayden

It’s the “not-Justice League” Justice League movie no one asked for yet. It’s becoming more and more unnecessary by the month.

  • zonver

Zsazs was also in Batman Begins… so these could be as well only some brief appearances

  • GrimReaper07

I’m guessing Zsasz’ll be like Rhino in TAS 2.

    • The Flobbit

      God I hope not. Pleasepleasepleaseplea

      • GrimReaper07

I wouldn’t count on him being an important character. He never seems to be in any of the comics I’ve read (which are about 4 or 5, not that many).

  • cloud720

I am not starting to feel uneasy, that happened when they cast Ben Affleck.

    • Merlin235

Ben Affleck doesn’t concern me half as much as Zach Snyder does.

  • The Flobbit

Get ONE good villain that is threatening, evil, and a worthy foe. Then you can start talking about four and five.

    • Merlin235

It sounds like different villains for different heroes. Batman has his, Superman has his. Maybe they open the movie with a fight scene, and the character goes away. Who knows. I’m trying to be optimistic.

    • agent777

Well as Eisenberg is playing the one confirmed villain… I doubt it will be good. I welcome more villains.

    • the king of comedy

They already have one, Lex Luthor. I don`t mind the inclusion of all these villains since the DC universe has so many characters, they can use minor villains such as Zsasz and David Cain to introduce Batman and Superman instead of some nameless villain, that way they can save the truly threatening villains for future movies, and Lex Luthor has always been the biggest threat to Superman and The Justice League.

  • The Flobbit

I like Zsasz. He’s one of those insane, messed-up villains that makes Gotham the hellish capital of anarchy and crime that it is. In Zack Snyder’s hands, hmm…

But I really wish they don’t go all “superheroes are bad” on us again (though with all these TV guys, it seems likely). Like we haven’t seen that in Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Batman Trilogy, The Incredibles, and Tv’s Arrow. Do we really need to go through all that again?

    • GrimReaper07

I think that because Superman basically wrecked Metropolis it’s the smartest way to go. Not saying the movie will be smart because of it, but yeah. Not pumped about the idea of it having 5 villains though.

      • The Flobbit

Not pumped of having the whole, “vigilante/is he a hero or a villain/debate” thing going on. It’s been done to death.

      • GrimReaper07

        I can’t disagree with that I guess.

    • the king of comedy

I think it`s the best way to introduce Lex Luthor, Superman is considered a hero, he even has his own statue but of course, as always will be people thinking Superman is to blame for all the chaos and destruction, Luthor is a different kind of villain than Doomsday, and he`s always been intelligent and able to influence public opinion.

  • Doot

Drazic from Hartley High is in this ?
(yeah not many of you may get this reference)

  • yrulaughing418

Unless all the characters apart from Supes and Batman are confined to cameos, this will be an even worse mess than ASM 2

  • Steve

Looks like we got another Spider-Man 3 on our hands. MoS was meh. IMO, the only casting that I like is Ben Afleck as Batman.

    • Merlin235

That’s funny. I was thinking the same thing. Which I guess puts us in the minority.

    • agent777

You mean the last good Spider-Man movie? Yeah, I said it.

  • brNdon

Everybody chill. These aren’t all villains. Two of these are just characters who sit on the more evil side of the spectrum. Batman or Superman aren’t going to be duking it out with Cain or Waller…

    • Merlin235

They might not technically be villains, but they ARE characters in the movie. And either they’re going to be cameos, they’re going to be under-developed, or the movie is going to be 3 hours long.

      • brNdon

So how many characters is a movie supposed to be limited to to be considered good?

      • DEADP00L

Since this is a Verses movie: Batman and Superman with their respecting supporting characters. Not this bloated ensemble of OTHER heroes and OTHER evil characters. This is just LAZY half assed writing.

      • Gögi Gonzales

        I LOVE BOATED ASSEMBLES.

      • Fahad Ali

I hope you meant to say “Bloated” ensembles?

      • lk

You may not like the movie when it comes out but I don’t think it’s fair to say Chris Terrio’s writing for this movie is “half assed”. At least not yet.

      • The Flobbit

If it was Michael Bay, they’d be all three.

  • bretthickman

Seeing as how Man of Steel was a loud, aggravating mess of a film, why wouldn’t this be that X infinity?

  • Merlin235

This is essentially The Avengers. If we can basically accept that, then it doesn’t seem so much like The Amazing Spider-man 2, which was overloaded with characters.

That’s me being optimistic. In reality, this feels like a disaster waiting to happen. Either these people are bit characters more akin to cameos, or the movie is going to be split in two.

    • yrulaughing418

it sounds like that, except one would think Justice League would be equivalent to The Avengers

this seems way overcrowded, considering it’s just supposed to be leading up to a proper team-up movie

  • http://www.discogs.com/ AdamShitwood

I think Warner Bros is looking to face fuck this audience. Some of you will like it, the others will simply throw up.

  • appolox

Does anybody else think that Peter Dinklage would make a great Lex Luthor?

    • GrimReaper07

I hate to be THAT guy, but as much as I love Dinklage his height kind of prevents him from playing Luthor. It worked for Trask, but Luthor is a big, important villain with a very distinct appearance. It’s one thing to cast Eisenberg, but casting Dinklage would be even weirder.

      • appolox

        What about Mads Mikkelson?

      • GrimReaper07

You’re just pointing out fantastic actors who play great villains, not people who could play a great Lex Luthor lol. Still, Mikkelsen is great in everything.

      • appolox

Well then who do you think should play him?

    • Guy Smiley

      No.

Though I suppose anyone’s better than Jesse Eisenberg.

  • Ramses Ávila

    Batman Forever 2 :(

  • TedSallis

Yeah! Jam in as many villains and characters as possible! That always makes movies better. It’s science.

  • Jake

The only hope is that the script is good from the guy that wrote “Argo”….otherwise I have ZERO faith in Snyder and his producer wife and all the suits at WB.`

  • The Pop Pessimist

Before people get pissed off, remember that Batman Begins had 3 villians in it. all to varying degrees of importance to the storyline. Lets not forget who is writing this.

    • http://tarek-to-verso.over-blog.com/ tarek

There was just one villain: Ras’al Gul organization.

    • DEADP00L

No…No it did not. It had ONE main villain with TWO supporting characters working for that ONE person. Falcony isn’t even a villain he’s the stooge. Scarecrow was not a villain at all he was almost comical and entirely redundant.

      TDK had ONE villain.

  • agent777

Lex Luthor is the villain, and he ALWAYS has henchmen. All these villains, aside from Zsaza, sound like Luthor stooges.

Personally they should go all out and have the Joker team up with Luthor.

    • DEADP00L

Zsaza is NOT a stooge. He isnt a character with any intent other than slicing and dicing anyone that’s alive in front of him. Luthor hiring such a character is beyond stupid. He’d have better chances getting something accomplished with the Joker.

  • God’s Diamond

I want David Cain because that means Cassandra Cain can show up later

    • DEADP00L

Prefer Helena Batgirl over Cassandra. No Man’s Land was the best Batman arch in my opinion.

    SPIDERMAN 3 anyone?
The more I hear about this, the more I DON’T want to see it! But of course, all the best bits will be in the trailer and get sucked in once again. *SIGH*

Bloated mess. Guaranteed nobody is going to be getting developed characters. This is a TV series in the guise of a Movie. Where people just pop up out of gods knows whose ass and is the villain of the day. In this case they just pop out of the wazu for 145+ min. Just like TF, lots of crap flying but you have no idea nor care about any of the characters.

    Just stinks of lazy writing.

Ok Morgan Edge and Amanda Waller are definitely feasible. And I can definitely see Zsasz having a cameo, maybe in a scene in Gotham City that introduces Batman. But I have no idea what so ever on how the bell David Caine fits into this.

Ok. This movie is officially dead to me.
    Batflek/FatBat
    Thinder Woman.
    Lexerberg.
    Khal-Aqua. etc, etc.

    And now this!
All I wanted was a sequel to MoS.

  • André Camilo

This Victor Zsasz character seem to be a good fit for Zack Snyder’s style. It just seems the kind of edgy, weird character he would love to put onscreen.

But, honestly, I just think Batman v Superman should be called Trainwreck, and not the new Judd Apatow movie – whose cast is awesome, BTW.

  • Lewida Funji

“Oh, my God! They’re breaking our record! We need to add more villians in The Amazing Spider-Man 3!”

  • illipsis

While I’m still incredibly apprehensive of this movie given Zack Snyder’s involvement and the hyperabundance of characters being shoehorned in, Scoot McNairy as Zsasz is grrreat casting if true. Really like Eisenberg as Luthor as well tbh.

  • ʝoe βloggs

    C.C.H. Pounder as Amanda Waller!

  • BatmanVSupermanWillRise

All of the present and future critics of Batman V. Superman on this page and around the world will ALL fail come May 2016. Batman V. Superman WILL get a rating of between 80% to 90% overall on Rotten Tomatoes and all movie reviewers will agree that this movie will have transcended the DC Universe and the Superhero movie genre going forward for a very long time. This movie is getting major exposure 2 years earlier because of the unprecedented belief by Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder that this movie will be incredibly and insanely great, and this much exposure on most films this early is extremely rare – this is no coincidence. This movie will succeed on many unbelievable levels, because a movie EXACTLY like this has never been made before. I look forward to this major motion picture experience in 2016 as so I hope all of you do too.

InB4 name changes to Justice League. Adding all these heroes and villains, this is no longer a Bats/Supes movie. Might as well call a spade a spade.

  • Cedhollywood

This is not a “sequel” to Man Of Steel. Its a “side” movie to spin off more movie(s) for the Justice League team and some of DC’s solo super hero characters.
