BATMAN VS SUPERMAN: Send in the Drones?

     November 15, 2013

While there are plenty of Batman and Superman storylines out there for Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman feature to draw from, there’s a new rumor that the story might use Alex Ross and Mark Waid’s “Kingdom Come” arc as a source.  All we really know about Snyder and David S. Goyer’s script is that Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) will appear.  Beyond that, we’ve had rumors of Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing being involved in the plot, plus the possibility of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman making an appearance, and maybe Lex Luthor as well.  The fun part of this new rumor is that the “Kingdom Come” storyline involves all of the above characters … plus Bat-Drones.  Hit the jump for more.

kingdom-come-comicBrought to our attention by Screen Rant, here’s the source of the new rumor, Warner Bros. producer, Daniel Alter:

Can’t wait for .. semi-retired/not speaking to Robin anymore.. Controlling drones from the batcave.

We know that this version of Batman is expected to be a bit older than previous iterations, so him being semi-retired makes sense.  The Nightwing rumor also suggested that the Dynamic Duo had been estranged for a number of years when we find them in the film.  Both of these plot points are a part of the “Kingdom Come” storyline, an Elseworlds arc that sees a growing conflict in a future world where Superman’s traditional Justice League battle Luthor’s Mankind Liberation Front.  Batman’s group, the Outsiders, are caught in between.  Grayson sides with Superman and Wonder Woman in the League as Red Robin.

While I don’t believe that Batman takes on Superman in this arc, he does don a battle-suit and winds up fighting Wonder Woman (didn’t see that coming)!  As far as controlling drones from the batcave goes, Batman does employ a small army of BatMecha known as Bat-Knights to do his bidding.  (Your move, Iron Man!)  Time will tell just how much of this is rumor and how much actually makes it into the final film, but go get your copies of “Kingdom Come” while they’re relatively cheap, just to be safe.
