Check out Photos and Video from This Weekend’s BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Filming

by     Posted 311 days ago

Last week, we reported that while filming on Zack Snyder‘s Superman/Batman movie wouldn’t truly get underway until early 2014, they would be using East Los Angeles College’s Weingart Stadium to shoot a scene involving Gotham City University and Metropolis State University.  They shot their scene this past weekend during halftime, and Collider reader Vahn Gharakhani was good enough to send us some photos and video he took.  Gotham is the home team in this game, and my favorite part of the video is when someone in the stands shouts, “Metropolis sucks!” because that person really got into character.

Hit the jump to check out the photos, the videos, and some details you’re going to want to take with a grain of salt.  The untitled Man of Steel sequel opens July 17, 2015.

Vahn also sent me an additional e-mail with this story:

As I was walking out to the restroom before the game. I ran into this very nice man who knew one of the players that were the extras on the Gotham home team. He said that Ben Affleck was indeed there. How does he know this? Because the extra he knew filmed a scene with Affleck earlier that day in the locker rooms before the crowd started arriving. He said the the scene was about Bruce Wayne giving a motivational speech to the team!

Not to cast doubt on Vahn, but to be clear: this was from a stranger who said he knew one of the extras, so that’s two degrees removed from the source.  Also, Bruce Wayne having a reason to motivate a football team seems odd because while I can buy a dude who dresses up like a rodent and fights crime, I have trouble believing a ridiculously wealthy person would go down to a locker room to give a team a motivational speech.  We don’t have superheroes in our world, but we do have billionaires, and they don’t do that.  But if this scene is actually in the movie, I really hope the speech starts with, “So when my parents were gunned down in front of me when I was a child…”

    Bats aren’t rodents, Matt.

I was just reminded of the scene from Batman Forever…

      • The Flobbit

        What scene from Batman Forever?

It’s in the beginning, he says “Bats aren’t rodents” to Dr. Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman).

      • The Flobbit

Huh. You’d think Matt would know that.

When Batman meets Chase Meridian at the beginning of the movie.

And this unnecessary filler does not bode well for the upcoming film. What, will Bane (who was not actually dead) turn up and blow up the stadium, only for Superman to intervene, causing animosity between Supes and the Bat?

If not, cut to the action. Cut to the drama.

I love how you call it unnecessary filler as though you have already seen this movie. Had this type of footage come out for TDKR you likely would have said the same thing.

      • The Flobbit

News came out of Nolan filming in a stadium for TDKR, and everyone thought that was very original and exciting. Myself included. When Nolan’s wannabe discount director Snyder does the same thing, we all find it rather repetitive.

It wasn’t exciting when Nolan did it either.

      • Ruprect

Wait! There was a football scene in Donner’s Superman too! It must now in retrospect suck! Or Nolan’s now sucks. Or something must suck. Why else would people post something online unless it was to point out how much everything sucks?

You tell me, you cynical zombie.

There are several ways to incorporate this and have it make sense. It also gives it relatability which is necessary when buying into a world with flying aliens and all….

Thanks Vahn for the video and pictures of the shoot.

Vahn Gharakhani sent me the same Ben Affleck story over at I think he was given some bogus information. Affleck is in St. Louis for another movie and that scene really does seem out of place, as Matt said.
