Jason Momoa in Talks to Join BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

by     Posted 266 days ago

While Jason Momoa came very close to landing a role in the Marvel Movie Universe by way of Guardians of the Galaxy’s Drax the Destroyer, the part ultimately ended up going to David Bautista.  No matter, it now looks like Momoa will get his shot at a big superhero movie, as he has apparently entered talks to join the cast of director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel follow-up Batman vs. Superman.  Warner Bros. recently announced that Gal Gadot will fill the role of Wonder Woman in the pic, and now that Snyder and producers have turned their attention to casting the film’s villain, it’s possible that Momoa could be playing the DC pic’s Big Bad.  Hit the jump for more.

batman-vs-superman-jason-momoaNews of Momoa’s involvement comes courtesy of Heat Vision, which reports that the actor is in negotiations to take on an unspecified role in Batman vs. Superman.  Obviously the plot and character details are being kept under lock and key, but rumors have swirled that the Batman vs. Superman villain could be the Krypton-born Doomsday, which would certainly fit Momoa’s physique.  Another possibility, as Heat Vision points out, is that Momoa could actually be playing a hero in the pic, specifically Martian Manhunter.  The character is a super-powered alien who was trapped on Earth, and the report speculates that since WB is so keen on filling out its DC comics universe by introducing a new Batman and Wonder Woman in the pic, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for Momoa to be playing a superhero as well.

All this to say we don’t really know who Momoa is playing, but he will almost certainly be in the film.  The actor has been delving into more genre properties as of late, playing Ronan Dex on Stargate: Atlantis and Khal Drogo on HBO’s Game of Thrones.  He led a feature film of his own by way of the 2011 Conan the Barbarian reboot, but the pic didn’t exactly take off.  Nevertheless, he’ll get the chance to shine onscreen once more when Batman vs. Superman opens in theaters on July 17, 2015.

Could he play vandal savage ?

    • Ronald Familia

Nah, I think as far as mainstream DC movie audiences go, Vandal Savage is pretty much unknown. Hopefully we can get a Brainiac type in there before they quickly go to the Luthor well.

looks like he’s doomsday, although i’m going to keep my fingers crossed that he’s playing a motion-capture metallo, created by lex luthor

    • axalon

Oh man, he’d be great as Doomsday!

      • brett1368

Doomsday is a creature and should not be cast as a human looking character. This movie is going to blow… without the happy ending afterwards

  • Strong Enough

    definitely Doomsday

    • Dev1359

If it’s Doomsday then this is starting to sound like the most convoluted movie ever. I thought this whole movie was supposed to revolve around Batman and Superman meeting for the first time? Now they’re adapting the Death of Superman, and on top of that throwing Wonder Woman into the mix? Makes no sense to throw all of these elements together in a 2 – 2 1/2 hour movie.

      • Strong Enough

its really that not crowded when you think about. it. I mean you have Superman and batman with a cameo from WW and thats all we know so far. Even Jason being doomsday is a rumor. its still to early to judge

      • HeSaidSheSaidReviewSite

No, Batman, Superman, WW, and two Superman villains isn’t crowded at all.

      • Strong Enough

You are going off of rumors. the only thing confirmed right now is batman superman and WW. thats it.

      • nelson

How about a 3 1/2 hour movie? I’m cool with that

  • Idris Elba

Idris Elba needs to play Alfred. If Idris Elba plays Alfred then the movie will at least be pretty decent no matter what.

    • http://www.gotham-news.com/ Pietro Filipponi

You do realize Elba and Affleck are literally the same age right

      • cf

so? alfred doesnt need to be older, its a reboot

      • http://www.gotham-news.com/ Pietro Filipponi

You’re right. The adult butler who raises 8 year old Bruce Wayne after his parents are killed could totally be his same age because reeeeeboot

      • Manuel Ignacio Perez Ruiz

Idris Elba can play green lantern. john stewart

      • Unique Jenique

        OMG. This

      • Doctor Reality

He’s making a funny. Hulk Style.

    • Drake

No, Jeremy Irons Must play Alfred!

    • sense11

that’s nonsense, especially for an older Bruce Wayne

  • Batzombie

The way this movie is shaping up, Doomsday could actually work as a villain. A threat large enough that it would take Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman together to bring him down. Just don’t make it a dumb Death of Superman movie. It’s way too soon for something like that. Doomsday can be the physical threat, while we still get to watch Lex Luthor do his thing.

    • Jason Richards

I just don’t know how they’re going to pull off doing a live action doomsday. He’s literally indestructible. Unless they carry him over to the justice league movie.

  • FlibFlorp

Just as long as they keep the talking to a minimum

  • mattinacan

just please don’t overload this movie, that’s the reason amazing spiderman2 looks so so bad.

    • Jason Richards

ASM2 doesn’t look bad to me at all. The trailer actually exceeded my expectations. Either way, the Wonder Woman casting seems to only be a cameo and a live action doomsday would be one of the most epic things in any super hero movie I’ve seen. I just don’t know how they’re going to pull it off.

  • pinkincide

How the hell is he Doomsday? That would be like doing a non-CG Hulk.

  • Caleb the Awesome

    • Doctor Reality

      Shit that’d be pretty cool.

  • Daniel O’Reilly

Could be Doomsday. But could also be Nightwing.

    • Doctor Reality

Buff nightwing would be interesting. He and Affleck truly would look like equals.

  • Yup

Looks like with Nolan departing the idea of man bing casts of Award Nominee’s went with him.

    • Yup

      Let me rephrase.
…the philosophy of getting casts filled with Award Nominees went out the window.

  • The Flobbit

Quick – cast him as anything! Just when you thought the movie was doomed, along comes our sun-and-stars to save us.

    • Doctor Reality

I like how the Marvel movies are “fun” but the DC movies are serious and the casting process itself is “fun.”

      • ScottX

Are you implying Game of Thrones isn’t serious? Really?

  • Frank

I’m thinking a cameo as Ares. Something very small related to Paradise Island.

    • Faptain America

That would make sense. Depends on the plot and how much Wonder Woman is in this movie.

  • verasgunn

Lobo. It probably wouldn’t make sense, and might seem a little shoehorned in, but god damn it, Jason Momoa needs to be cast to play Lobo in something.

    • cb

I see it, he might be really good.

    • Doctor Reality

Wow. He’d actually be good as Lobo.

    • ScottX

Would be cool. But I really don’t want to see the DC-Movies-Universe version of Lobo. Gritty serious Lobo. :S

    • Chris

They should cast Darnell Dockett as Lobo. Save Mamoa for non-speaking roles.

At first i was thinking he was going to play the The Mutant Leader, since, they are kinda following the miller DKR comic book.

    this guy…http://www.beyondhollywood.com/uploads/2012/09/The-Mutant-Leader-in-Batman-The-Dark-Knight-Returns-Part-1-2012-Movie-Image-2.jpg

    But doomsday makes sense too.

  • yrulaughing418

the way they keep throwing in characters like Martian Manhunter, Flash and Wonder Woman, what’s the point of this being a Batman/Superman movie? might as well just call is Justice League

  • Unique Jenique

Instead of Doomsday how about Darkseid?

  • Chris

    Lobo anyone?

  • Kelloway

I haven’t heard a peep from anyone that he could be Darkseid. Look to the BROW! Though, they all have the brooding brow now.

They launched the Justice League new 52 with Darkseid. Why not the lead in with movie as well. Arrow is apparently in, so is Flash and Wonder Woman. Wasn’t there a rumor that the TV and Movie characters would cross over? The only ones missing are Cyborg and Green Lantern. Boom! Justice League.

  • Jamesy

Doomsday is my guess, but HOW are they gonna fit in so many characters and not have this go in to overload? If Momoa is up for Doomsday, how big of an arc will he have in this, or will it just be an extended cameo to set up JL? I hope they don’t just use him as a henchman it would just be a waste. Would be cool if they went the way of prosthetics for Doomsday but I doubt they would in this day and age. either way i’m stoked if its true.

  • poppincherry

How much y’all wanna bet Justine Beiber has been buffing up for a role as Robin in this soon to be fucking train wreck.

  • sense11

Lobo, Doomsady, maybe the Martian but I think Idris Elba is better suited for that part , either way this is good news, the guy already looks like he walked out of a comic book

  • doctor_robot

he should have been drax the destroyer.

  • rowdy13

    Or Brainiac…
