Hot on the heels of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War trailer debut, Warner Bros. has unveiled a new look at director Zack Snyder’s highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by way of the film's first sneak-peek TV spot, which aired during tonight’s episode of the Batman prequel series Gotham. The film picks up after the events of Man of Steel, as Henry Cavill’s Superman finds himself dealing with the repercussions of his collateral damage-heavy fight with General Zod and a world on edge. Ben Affleck’s Batman, meanwhile, comes out of the shadows to defend his city against this alien presence.

In the trailer below, we see that The Man of Steel has caught the Bat. In lieu of a lengthy trailer, Warner Bros. decided to include an extended clip from the film featuring Ben Affleck’s Batman hanging by his wrists. Those soldiers dressed in black — the same ones we saw in the Comic-Con trailer sporting Superman’s insignia — stand watch as the visibly angered Kryptonian superhero sticks his landing and rips off Batman’s mask:

The biggest question is who are these soldiers and why do they literally bow down to Superman? Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) more than likely has some part to play in all of this, also considering we see him in previous footage cupping Supe’s chin as the hero bows down to him. The film won’t be released until next year, so perhaps the WB is holding all their bigger cards close to the vest for then. Still, coming in such close proximity to the to-do over the Captain America: Civil War trailer drop, it’s hard not to feel at least a little disappointed.

The film also stars Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Holly Hunter, Scoot McNairy, and Laurence Fishburne. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.
