Hoo boy, brace yourselves. The moment is here. After the trickle of positive reactions from the early screenings, the embargo for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has officially lifted and thel critics are weighing in at full force. Zack Snyder has been a divisive filmmaker throughout his career, but considering the heated response to Man of Steel‘s critical reception, I’d imagine folks are going to have some feelings on how the film is faring in its reviews — which is to say, not very well. So far, the consensus seems to be that the film is a beautiful mess featuring standout performances from Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck.
Even more critics are screening the film tonight, so be sure to check out Matt Goldberg’s full review when it post tomorrow, but until then check out the early word below. And remember folks, they’re just reviews, aka opinions, and you know what they say about those…
2 things about BATMAN V SUPERMAN: Avoid all spoilers and see it in IMAX.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN is *infinitely* less painful than MAN OF STEEL, but it also characterizes why shared universe superhero movies are garbage — david ehrlich (@davidehrlich) March 22, 2016
I enjoyed #BatmanvSuperman so much more than I expected to and Gal Gadot is the PERFECT Wonder Woman. Really can’t wait for THAT movie.

#BatmanvSuperman is like Amazing Spider-Man meets The Phantom Menace. Mostly a bore, but Wonder Woman is great!

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: Might be the first superhero movie to give me a hangover. Delivers on the promise of its title, but man my head hurts. — ErikDavis (@ErikDavis) March 22, 2016
Favorite part of BATMAN V SUPERMAN? Affleck’s Batman. Least favorite? Lex Luthor. Really dug the opening & the big fight.

Batman V Superman is a huge letdown. It’s bloated, unfocused & dull with serious character missteps. A few good moments can’t save the rest. — Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) March 22, 2016
It’s important too that I wanted to love it. I wanted to have fun, be wowed, laugh & cry. But I just scratched my head & looked at my watch

If you want to see a ten minute fight between Batman and Superman in a two and a half hour movie, Batman V Superman might be for you ☺️ — Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) March 22, 2016
As a fan of MAN OF STEEL I’m here to tell you, #BatmanvSuperman isn’t as bad as most people will say. But it sure as hell ain’t good.

Ben Affleck is the best modern Batman! — Adonai (@devincf) March 22, 2016
But the movie itself is terrible, poorly made, dumb, and shockingly dull. Doomsday is trash. Lex stinks. The worst modern comic book film.

Batman v Superman has maybe one laugh, no coherence and so much grim-dark-seriousness that I could barely make out the characters. — Helen O’Hara (@HelenLOHara) March 22, 2016
Here’s how important each part of #BatmanvSuperman is to the overall movie:
