Columbia Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for director Jonathan Liebesman’s alien invasion film Battle: Los Angeles and it’s fraking awesome.  I absolutely love the way this teaser has been cut, and wait till you hear the song it’s cut to.  Note to other studios, this is how you sell a movie in a teaser trailer.

If you’re not familiar with Battle: L.A., it stars Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Michelle Rodriguez (Machete), Michael Peña (Eastbound & Down), Joey King (Ramona and Beezus), and Bridget Moynahan (Blue Bloods) star.

Check out the teaser trailer after the jump and tell me you’re not excited.

Battle: Los Angeles hits theaters March 11, 2011.  You can watch it HD on Apple here.

Here’s the synopsis:

For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world – Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.

You’ve summed up the key problem with this for me; the scope is stunning and the effects dazzling, but I feel like I’ve already seen this movie about fifty times over the years.

Totally worked on me. Full-on alien invasion with a real military response. I’m sold. I almost don’t want to see more until I’m in the theater.

What is more concerning is that if we were ever invaded by an alien race that wanted to take over, wanted all that we had, how in the hell would we survive. Is this even possible to plan for. With all the latest boogey man alien stories. It kind of makes you want to dig a hole underneath your current homes foundation, pipe a air tube out for a subtle ventalation, start hording canned food and dry goods, dig a well inside you cellar that you have built, buy as much weaponry as you can afford, buy some solar panels, learn morris code and how to build a radio powered by an orange and finally figure out what you will do with all that poo so that the little green bastards cannot sniff us out digg us up and eat us. Anyone got any thoughts on what to do with all the poo…?

      >Anyone got any thoughts on what to do with all the poo…?

      Sure. Two words. “Composting toilet”.

As far as alien invasions go, the scientific reality is more in tune with the War of the Worlds trope, i.e. incompatible biological environments not to mention the immense problem of interstellar travel. For a humorous yet accurate take on that look for Cracked’s “6 Reasons Space Travel Will Always Suck”

I can only hope that they were smart enough to hire Capt. Dale Dye or GySgt R. Lee Ermy as their military advisor since Hollywood is infamous (well, more like a laughingstock to any veteran) for their inability to potray the military with any degree of accuracy (ala James Cameron — military=bad/evil) but I am not about to hold my breath. Actually has Hollywood ever portrayed anything accurately? Even recent so-called documentarys are more fiction than fact. Then again, as long as it looks cool/makes money no one there really cares, LOL.

i think that will always be the age old question. haha ya cuz if you kept it underground with you and it wasnt that ventalated eerybody could be poisoned from the nauxeuous gasses lol

    • Jason Zerbey @

If I were you, I’d buy a dictionary first; no one will ever understand your “morris code.”

  20. Duggie @

Have you dug? Start digging; You know its coming… 767 days to go.

  21. Chubbstatubbs @

ya that looks alot better than skyline !

  22. Scukthyballs @

So kinda like SKYLINE but more gritty. Still cool. BTW have to say again The American is the worst film in the world! Comments are hilarious though HAHAH!
