The first trailer for Battle of the Year, aka “That Movie Where Sawyer Coaches a Breakdancing Team,” has been released.  The film is based on the documentary of the same name that focused on the 2005 Battle of the Year and the B-boy (breakdancing) crews (teams) that took part in the competition.  Lost’s Josh Holloway stars as a basketball coach who reluctantly agrees to lead the team, which includes Josh Peck (The Wackness) and lady-beater Chris Brown.  The trailer plays out exactly as you’d expect, so if B-boy competitions are your thing I assume you’ll have some interest in Battle of the Year.  If not, the only highlight is in this trailer is seeing Chris Brown get punched in the face.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Directed by Benson Lee, the film also stars Laz Alonso and Caity LotzBattle of the Year opens in 3D on January 25th.

Here’s the synopsis for Battle of the Year:

Battle of the Year is the Olympics of break dancing, a tournament held every year that attracts all the best teams from around the world, but the Americans haven’t won in fifteen years. Los Angeles Hip Hop mogul and former B-Boy Dante (Alonso) wants to put the country that started the Sport back on top. He enlists his hard-luck friend Blake (Holloway), who was a championship basketball coach, to coach his team. Armed with the theory that the right coach can make any team champions, they assemble a Dream Team of all the best b-boys across the country. With only three months until Battle of the Year, Blake has to use every tactic he knows to get twelve talented individuals to come together as a team if they’re going to bring the Trophy back to America where it started. Inspired by the actual World championship held yearly in France.

    say it ain’t so, Sawyer

That is a lot of snarkiness…. is it really necessary to prefix lady beater to Chris Brown? Don’t see that attached to others like Charlie Sheen, Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, etc.

I start to judge your professional when you choose to refer to Chris Brown as a woman beater. It would be nice to keep his professional life and personal life seperate.

Ok, There’s no denying that the moves and choreography are extremely impressive, but the acting looks terrible and the story has been done to the death.

It’s unnecessary and unprofessional to put up women beater for chris brown. He did a horrible thing he’s apoligized and alot of people have forgiven him it’s not like he’s the only person that ever hit a women. His professional life is different than his personal and give him props for coming back after that incident.

He could have killed her. He hit her like 18 times and smashed her head against the windshield. That’s what I call a “murderous rage”. If they weren’t sitting in a car he would have used BOTH hands and she would be dead. He can apologize all he wants – he’s forever shamed, and he should be.

Shut the fuck up he wasn’t strapped n the car he could have easily opened the door and killed her according to your logic…..,your a min wage disgrace who is using a public library to
        Get on here…..Now that’s a lowlife

Chris Brown can do no wrong!!!!(2008)

i think “lady beater” is a fair thing not to live down. and i’m not worried about that same lack of forgiveness being shown to be because i wouldn’t beat a lady. man this movie looks like shit. they should have spent more money on a less cheap trailer with a less cheap “trailer voice”. this looks straight to dvd.

Okay ah like….I didnt want to, but me like….very much ;)

Dude I’m too old for that crap. I grew up in the 80′s. I was there when MTV went on air. I saw Thriller when it was in heavy rotation. Break dancing? ZZZZZZZ.
Been there, popped and locked, done that.

because people like you give him permission to beat woman.

I agree. It would seem that only some people tend to get labelled. I would like for anyone who has not done wrong things to call someone else a name. You just don’t have to be in the public eye while you do it. Find something better to do with your time I suggest.
